If the about 34,000 student population at the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), the institution has accommodation facilities for only 3,000 students.

Consequently, the institution has gotten the Federal Government’s nod to construct halls of residence under the build, operate and transfer (BOT) arrangement.

The UNILORIN Vice-Chancellor, Prof AbdulGaniy Ambali told reporters on Sunday in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, that the university has already received proposals for more hostel accommodations.

He said: “I know we are still going to encourage people because right now, the university has a population about 34,000 students and the facilities that we have on campus now can only accommodate just 3,000. You can imagine the gap between the needs and the available facilities.

“Right now we are talking with almost three developers who are ready to come and invest within the university. I am sure that before the end of the session or early next session we will have more accommodation of our undergraduate and post graduate students.”

With more accommodation on campus, the Vice-Chancellor said students will be more secure, as well as enjoy better facilities.

He said: “We are still going to encourage and partner the public to come and build more hostels within the campus because it is better and safer for students to be on campus than to be renting houses outside the campus. Within the campus, they are under our control but once they are outside the campus, we have limited jurisdiction. On the campus we have the security agencies and the other arms of government to take care of such.

“Of course within the campus we provide more facilities like electricity. Also the proximity of classrooms and laboratories to the hostels is very important in the smooth and efficient academic delivery to our students. So we hope and pray that more people will respond to our call to come and build more hostels within the campus.”

On the sharp decline in the quality of university products in the country, Ambali said the quality of education is not that bad.

He said: “Most of our doctors practice in the UK, US and other developed nations. If they do not qualify for Medical Council exams there, they won’t have been allowed to practice there.”

The VC challenged local and state governments including education stockholders to improve the quality of students they are giving the universities.

“The universities get their students from the products of most secondary schools. We make use of what we are being fed with. So, the responsibility is not that of the universities alone, because we come in at the middle of the educational development. It is a collective responsibility,” he said.

The long awaited remedial programme admission list of the University of Ilorin, Nigeria is out. It is therefore recommend that all prospective students of the programme in the school should check their admission status.

Checking of admission status for the remedial programme is done online at: www.unilorin.edu.ng.

If offered provisional admission complete the steps outlined in 1 to 8 below

1. Complete the acceptance form with a NON REFUNDABLE ACCEPTANCE FEE of Ten Thousand Naira (#10,000) which constitutes part of the school fees.

a) COMPLETE THE ONLINE REGISTRATION FORM.

b) PRINT OUT A COPY OF THE COMPLETED FORM.

2. Proceed to UNILORIN SCHOOL OF PRELIMINARY STUDIES PROGRAMME CENTRE , FUFU, near Idofian for clearance as from MONDAY 11th FEBRUARY, 2013 TO 22nd FEBRUARY, 2013 (from 8am till 4pm daily).

Bring along the originals and photocopies of Remedial Form, CERTIFICATES/STATEMENT OF RESULTS as filled on-line for the admission process. Obtain a scratch card of the O-level examination body (or bodies) of the result(s)/certificate(s), e.g. SSCE, NECO, NABTEB, CAMBRIDGE etc, used for the admission process. Activate your scratch card by using it at least once but not more than twice to check the result for which the scratch card details are being indicated.
Bring the result(s) and the attached scratch card(s) to the School of Preliminary Studies (SPS), Fufu for verification.
Obtain the clearance certificate from the school of preliminary studies after the verification exercise.

3. Candidates are to ensure a minimum balance of Seventy Six Thousand Naira (#76,000) on their ATM card (MASTER CARD OR VERVE CARD) for payment purposes (Tuition: #80,000, school charges: #3,200, Health #1,000 and bank charges #250.00). Note that the Ten Thousand Naira acceptance fee earlier paid is part of the Eighty Thousand Naira tuition fee.

4. Go to the university website by login to www.unilorin.edu.ng and click on the link 2012/2013 Remedial Registration to complete step 3 above.

a) Print 4 copies of the completed Registration form and submit 3 copies at (SPS) CENTRE, FUFU with photocopies of your 2013/2014 JAMB REGISTRATION SLIP, evidence of payment and all your other credentials:

5. Limited accommodation is available on first come, first serve basis at FUFU Campus. Candidates who are interested in taking accommodation from the University are to obtain accommodation form from the School of Preliminary Studies. A bank draft for Eight Thousand Naira (#8,000) made payable to the University of Ilorin for accommodation must be submitted to the Bursary Department at Fufu and another refundable Bank draft for Three thousand Naira (#3000) made payable to the School of Preliminary studies as caution fees.

6. Apart from the charges specified above, candidates are warned not to pay any additional money to anybody during or after the registration exercise.

7. Any offer of admission that is not accepted on or before 24TH February, 2013 would be deemed to have lapsed.

8. Note that lecture starts by 25th February, 2013 at the SCHOOL OF PRELIMINARY STUDIES, FUFU.

UNILORIN Begins Admissions Into Postgraduate Programmes. The University Of Ilorin(UNILORIN), Kwara State Nigeria, hereby invite Applications from suitably qualified candidates for admission into various Postgraduate degree programmes of the University.

A. POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMMES OFFERED
1. Ph.D. Degree Programmes are available to holders of M.A; M.Ed.; M.Eng.; M.Sc.; LL.M; M.Comm.H.; and M.P.H degrees, with a minimum of 60% score in their Master degree programmes.
A Ph.D. degree programme runs for a minimum period of 30 calendar months and a maximum period of 42 calendar months for Full-Time candidates OR a minimum period of 42 calendar months and a maximum period of 54 calendar months for Part-Time candidates.

2. Candidates who score between 55 and 59.9 percent should apply for admission into the Master of Philosophy (M.Phil) degree programme.
The M.Phil. degree programme is available only to Full-Time candidates and it runs for a minimum period of 12 calendar months and a maximum period of24 calendar months. Candidates in this category are eligible for conversion to Ph.D. candidature following a progress assessment report to be made by a Panel of Examiners at the end of the first semester of registration.

3. M.A.; M.Ed.; M.Eng.; M.Sc.; M.Com.H., LL.M and M.P.H. Degrees, run for a minimum period of 12 calendar months and a maximum period of 24 calendar months for Full-Time candidates OR a minimum period of 24 calendar months and a maximum period of 36 calendar months for Part-Time candidates.
At the University of Ilorin, unless with a written approval of the University Senate, a Master or Ph.D. degree programme automatically lapses at the expiration of the maximum duration for each programme. However, a Master or Ph.D. degree candidate may apply for anextension of not more than 12 months, in the first instance, subject to a maximum of two such extensions.
4. All Master Degree Programmes, except M.Phil., are by course work, in addition to a research project report. M.Phil. and Ph.D. Degree Programmes are normally by research, except where relevant course work may be prescribed, where necessary. A dissertation is required for the M.Phil. programme and a thesis is required for the Ph.D. programme.

This is to inform all the candidates that chose University of ilorin, (Unilorin) as their second choice in the 2013/2014 UTME that the school management has fixed the date for their post-UTME screening exercise

ELIGIBILITY
- Candidates that made the school their 2nd choice must have Scored a minimum of 180 marks in the 2013 UTME for all courses except those for which higher cut off marks have been specified on the University of ilorin portal;

- Candidates must Made the University of Ilorin their second choice either at UTME or Direct Entry (DE) and also;

- Obtained Five (5) Credits in relevant ‘O ’ Level subjects, at not more than two sittings excepting MB;BS where only one sitting is acceptable.

Eligible candidates should visit the University website at www.unilorin.ed u.ng to complete their registration online.

WARNING: all candidates should take note that assessing the University website through any of search engines may lead to redirection to other websites not associated with the University of Ilorin.

For further enquiries, candidates should contact preadmission2013@ unilorin.edu.ng . How to Apply The University charges N1,000.00 (One thousand Naira) only for the CBT exercise and N1,000.00 (One thousand Naira) only for the University processing fee.

Details on the step- by- step registration procedure are available on the University website www.unilorin.edu.ng. Registration for the Pre-admission screening will commence on Monday 1st July and end Sunday 14th July, 2013.

The Pre-admission Screening Exercise is scheduled to take place from Monday, 15th to Saturday 20th July, 2013 using Computer Based Test (CBT) platform at Ilorin and Lagos Centres .

The deadline for the online registration is 14th July, 2013. However, candidates awaiting results but who have registered on or before 14th July, 2013 have the opportunity to submit their results online on or before 15th August, 2013 when the portal will be closed.
