Senator Gbenga Ashafa, representing Lagos East Senatorial District, has described the victory of the Super Eagles at the just concluded Africa Cup of Nations, as a pointer to more good tidings to come if Nigerians are resolute and focused in achieving greatness in all endeavours.
Ashafa, in his congratulatory message to Nigerians and members of the Super Eagles, however, noted that the victory would reinforce the spirit of unity among Nigerians.
“Soccer has always being a unifying factor for Nigerians. Irrespective of religion, ethnic background, sex, or status, football always brings us together as one good family,” he said.
The senator, who was full of praises for the senior National team, said they won the tournament through sheer determination, oneness and focus without any personal interest agenda.
He said: “The Super Eagles, who were not among the pre-tournament favourites, won because the coach selected the right players for the task as well as the fact that the technical crew believed that when there is determination and self-belief, there is no impossibility.
”I salute our boys and the crew for making Nigeria proud again after many years of disappointment in our sports sector.
”This victory has shown that, Nigeria can rise to the top in every sphere of our economy, if the right people are allowed to steer the ship of leadership. I want to encourage Nigerians not to despair but hold on to hope in the renaissance of Nigeria as a force in the comity of nations.”
