Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has been left fuming at his side's "ridiculous"
defensive mistakes as the Blues slipped to a 2-1 defeat to FC Porto in the
Champions League this evening.
Porto took the lead on the 39-minute mark when Andre Andre positioned himself
to drive the ball into the back of the net after Asmir Begovic had pushed the ball
out, making a save from a shot.
Chelsea however would not go in at half time behind and Willian struck a superb
free-kick into the back of the net in the 45th minute.
Porto came out after half time determined to go back in front though and did just
that in the 52nd minute when Maicon made sure he beat Ramires to a corner and
flicked the ball beyond Begovic.
Chelsea pushed to try and find an equaliser and had a strong appeal for a penalty
turned down, but Porto stood firm and managed to see out the game to claim a
2-1 victory and all three group points.
For Mourinho, conceding from a corner was not good enough, especially as his
side had prepared thoroughly to defend Porto corners.
He told a press conference: "We watched dozens and dozens of repetitions of Porto
taking corners.
"We were completely, I thought, ready for that and in a moment where the game is
completely under control we were preparing a change we conceded that goal and it's
ridiculous.
"We had another when they hit the post, but apart from that we were defensively
balanced.
"But two ridiculous mistakes and we were punished", Mourinho added.
