Christian Benteke has been ruled out of
Liverpool’s League Cup clash against
Bournemouth tonight with a knee injury.
The £32.5m signing from Aston Villa has struggled
with injuries since his arrival and has only found the
back of the net three times since his arrival in the
summer from the Midlands club.
The 24-year-old striker scored in Liverpool’s 1-1 draw
against Southampton during the weekend and is
appeared to have suffered another problem towards
the end of the game at Anfield.
According to the BBC, the Belgian international is set
to miss the Reds’ League Cup clash against
Bournemouth with a knee injury, further diminishing
Jurgen Klopp’s striking options for tonight’s game.
Klopp is already missing Daniel Sturridge and Danny
Ings from his squad due to injuries and Benteke’s
fresh injury troubles have provided the German with
a dilemma regarding his team’s attack.
Benteke returned to the Liverpool side in last week’s
Europa League draw against Rubin Kazan after
missing one month of action due to a hamstring
injury.
He has already made two substitute appearances
under the new Liverpool boss, but hopes of a first
start under the 49-year-old German have evaporated
because of his fresh knee troubles.
Klopp will be looking to get his first win on the board
tonight, but he will have to manage that feat without
the services of his goalscorer against Southampton.
