Chelsea’s hit-and-miss striker Fernando
Torres admits he should have scored more
goals during his three years at Stamford
Bridge.
The Spaniard, who cost the Blues £50m
when he joined from Liverpool in January
2011, has been a shadow of his former self
for much of his time in west London.
Despite finishing as the club’s top scorer last
term, Torres has netted just 41 times in
nearly 150 Chelsea appearances.
And the World Cup winner admits he needs
to be finding the back of the net more
frequently.
‘I am happy with the team and my
contribution to it around work,’ Torres said.
‘But I should have scored more goals and I
have to look at myself. Everyone has to look
at themselves.
‘If you score every week, you play. If not you
are going to rotate.’
Torres has appeared to be boss Jose
Mourinho’s first choice striker this term and
the 29-year-old has looked a more confident
figure leading the Blues’ line than in
previous seasons.
But six goals in his 17 appearances this
season is not the return he, or Mourinho,
would like.
