Theo Walcott has revealed that Arsenal's players
were talking about Tottenham Hotspur having
beaten Manchester City 4-1 today and it helped
them to focus on doing their bit to beat Leicester
City, which they did 5-2.
Leicester took the lead against Arsenal in the 13th
minute when Jamie Vardy completed a quick counter-
attack from his side to make it 1-0.
But Theo Walcott fired Arsenal level in the 18th
minute after he found space behind the Leicester
defence and hit a neat finish.
It was then 2-1 to the visitors when Alexis Sanchez
struck in the 33rd minute, the Chilean getting on the
end of a Hector Bellerin cross to make no mistake.
Sanchez then bagged his second of the game to make
it 3-1 in the 57th minute, when he got on the end of a
Mesut Ozil ball to beat the Leicester goalkeeper to the
ball and head into the back of the net.
In the 81st minute Sanchez unleashed a powerful
shot which
**** into the back of the net to
complete his hat-trick and make it 4-1.
But Vardy scored his second to temporarily ease the
pain before Olivier Giroud then struck in injury time
to secure a 5-2 win for the visitors.
For Walcott, Arsenal winning was vital and he admits
they were fully aware of Manchester City's defeat
when they took to the pitch.
"We can only look after ourselves to be honest, but a
lot of the guys were saying what the score was", he
told the BBC.
"But then we had to focus.
"We know our jobs and we just had to get the three
points, that's all we can do.
"It's a big win today. Leicester obviously had a
fantastic start to the season and they are going to
actually cause a lot of upsets I'm sure."
