Acreo Swedish ICT invites application for two years postdoctoral position. The position is available in fiber optical communication to develop new methods for constructing communications systems using optical transmission and linear and non-linear fiber properties. To be eligible for the position, applicants must hold a PhD or have equivalent research experience in terms of an MSc and four years advanced research work.

Study Subject(s): The postdoctoral position is available in fiber optical communication to develop new methods for constructing communications systems using optical transmission and linear and non-linear fiber properties. Course Level: This position is available for pursuing postdoctoral program. Scholarship Provider: Acreo Swedish ICT. Project is run in collaboration with Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Sweden Scholarship can be taken at: Sweden

Eligibility: Applicants must hold a PhD or have equivalent research experience in terms of an MSc plus four years advanced research work. The applicants background should be in optics/photonics, applied physics, electrical engineering, or related areas. Furthermore, the successful applicant has: -Strong academic credentials, written and spoken English proficiency, communication and team-work skills. -Interest in following subjects: electro-optics,optical transmission systems. Strong motivation to perform simulation and experimentally based research. -Ability to programme in various languages (C++, MATLAB, etc) and be able to verify and design advanced computer (simulation) software model implementations. -The applicant must document that he/she has not worked more than 12 months in Sweden during the last three years (up until 2013-03-01).

Scholarship Open for Students of Following Countries: The students of Sweden can apply for the position.

Scholarship Description: Project is in collaboration with Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Sweden. The project will develop and investigate theoretically, by simulations and experimentally new methods for constructing communications systems: -Ways of incorporating features like chromatic dispersion, fiber non-linearities, Raman amplification, and decide which implementations give the best phase noise tolerance. -Modulation techniques that are interesting are coherent n-level Phase Shift Keying (PSK) and Quadrature Amplitude Modulated (QAM) systems as well as OFDM systems. The post doc study will develop new methods for constructing communications systems using optical transmission and linear and non-linear fiber properties. The study will be based on numerical simulations as well as on experimental verifications in the lab at high transmission speeds in the order of 100 GS/s. Project is run in collaboration with Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Sweden.

Duration of award(s): The position is offered for two years.
