The Nigerian Women Association of Georgia (NWAG) plans to award 37 one-time scholarships, for all the Nigerian states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), to the tune of fifty thousand Naira each, to Nigerian female undergraduate students in Nigerian universities. NWAG, a non-profit organization based in Atlanta Georgia, was founded in April 2000 by the then Consul General's wife, Mrs. Dayo Keshi with a mission to empower women, youth and children in their adopted community in the United States and in their home country, Nigeria.

As at 2012, NWAG has successfully awarded a one-time, one year scholarship to 338 female students in Nigeria and 34 students in the USA.

The current NWAG President, Mrs. Abby F. Ebodaghe, who looks forward to the 11th Annual NWAG Scholarship Awards challenges female undergraduates from unrepresented or minimally represented states and universities to participate this year and change that picture. She is calling on families to encourage their daughters to take advantage of this opportunity.

A statement by NWAG urged interested prospective applicants to visit NWAG website at www.nwag.org to download an application form which could be submitted after Completion with all required documents to NWAG either by regular mail to P.O. Box 14532, Atlanta, GA 30324 or electronically via email at nwagscholarship@yahoo.com. NWAG stated that subject line of emal, name of applicant and all electronic submissions must be in PDF or word format. All applications must be post-marked by May 30, 2013. And that late applications will not be accepted. Applications may not be faxed or hand-delivered.

The group said applicants are required to submit, proof of State of Origin and letter of origination from the university or a letter from the applicants local government office. Two letters of recommendation from any two of the following: Church pastor/mosque imam, village head, Local Government vhairperson or one of the applicants lecturers are also required. one letter of recommendation from either the Dean of applicant's faculty/school or applicants head of department, photocopy of applicant's current university student identification card, a current photograph of the applicant, an explanation of why the applicant needs and should receive the scholarship- (not more than one-half typed page) and a type-written, double-spaced, two-page essay on:

"How could we improve the health system in Nigeria especially for women, youth and children?" NWAG is a 501(c)(3) Nonprofit Organization funded by generous donations from sponsors and partners who appreciate the association's special projects. So far, NWAG has shipped over $1m (one million) dollars worth of medical supplies to various states in Nigeria. In addition, NWAG supports ten orphanages with their nutritional program all across Nigeria and in Atlanta, Georgia; NWAG supports the following non-profit organizations: the Atlanta Community Food Bank, Hosea Feed the Hungry, International Women's House, MedShare International, Sickle Cell Foundation and Southside Medical Center.
