Commonwealth Scholarship for Developing Countries – Masters and PhD

Each year, the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission invites each nominating agency, university or university body to forward a specific number of nominations for the commonwealth scholarship for developing countries for Masters and PhD studies. Each nominating agency/university/university body is responsible for its own selection process, and in most cases they will set a closing date in the months preceding the CSC’s deadline for nominations.

Previous Application Deadline: 7 December

The Commonwealth Shared Scholarships, set up by the Department for International Development (DFID) in 1986, represent a unique partnership between the United Kingdom government and UK universities. To date, more than 3,500 students from developing Commonwealth countries have been awarded Shared Scholarships. Without these awards they would not otherwise have been able to benefit from UK higher education.

Commonwealth Split-site Scholarships – PhD in UK and Home country University

Commonwealth Split-site Scholarships support one year’s study at a UK university as part of a PhD being undertaken in your home country, under joint supervision of a home country and UK supervisor.

Commonwealth Professional Fellowships for Commonwealth Developing Countries

The Commonwealth Scholarship Commission offers the Commonwealth Professional Fellowships to support mid-career professionals from developing Commonwealth countries to spend a period of time with a UK host organisation working in their field for a programme of professional development. Fellowships are typically three months but can be between one and six months in length and can include limited time for attendance at short courses or conferences, as well as visits to other organizations.

Chevening Scholarships for Commonwealth Countries

The UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office Chevening Scholarship programme was established in 1983 and is now an internationally prestigious scheme with over 41,000 alumni. In 2011-12 there were over 700 Chevening Scholars studying at universities across the UK. Chevening Scholarships are currently offered in approximately 110 countries. Chevening awards enable Scholars to study a one-year postgraduate Master’s course in any discipline at any UK university.

UCL & Africa Educational Trust Undergraduate Scholarships for Students from Africa- UK

University College London (UCL) and the Africa Educational Trust (AET) have agreed to collaborate in a scheme to enable students from Africa, who are financially unable to study in the UK, to pursue full-time undergraduate studies at UCL. With this scheme UCL supports the aims of AET to help the people of Africa. Under the scheme, two full bursaries are available annually for AET-nominated students who have accepted offers of places at UCL.

Canon Collins Trust UK Scholarships for Masters Study for Africans

Julius Nyerere Master’s Scholarship in UK for Tanzanian Students

The Julius Nyerere Scholarship was set up in memory of Mwalimu Julius Nyerere who led Tanganyika to independence in 1961 and became the first prime minister and later president of Tanzania. Nyerere received a scholarship in 1949 to attend the University of Edinburgh where he obtained a Masters of Arts degree that saw him study courses in English, Political Economy, Social Anthropology, British History, Economic History, Constitutional Law, and Moral Philosophy.

    University of the West of England -UWE international scholarships

    The University of the West of England, Bristol offers more than £100,000 worth of scholarships for international students each year. A student can only be in receipt of one University of the West of England scholarship, If you meet the eligibility criteria for more than one of the scholarships, you will be awarded the scholarship which is the most beneficial to you. This will be in addition to the UWE Loyalty Scholarship where applicable.

    MSc Forestry- Commonwealth Scholarship Commission – Distance Learning Scholarships at Bangor University

    Bangor University, UK, through the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC) offer up to 15 fully-funded scholarships (each worth over £12,000 to cover tuition fees) for applicants from the following developing commonwealth countries to study for postgraduate MSc Forestry by distance learning:
    Bangladesh, Botswana, Cameroon, The Gambia, Ghana, Guyana, India, Jamaica, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Namibia, Nigeria, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia.

    Undergraduate Scholarship for International Excellence at University of Glasgow

    The University of Glasgow will award the International Excellence Scholarship to a total of 30 undergraduate scholarships of £5,000 each per annum.     Engineering and Computing £200,000 Scholarship Scheme at Coventry University UK

    In order to celebrate the opening of Coventry University’s £55 million state of the art engineering and computing, the faculty is launching a new scholarship scheme.
