Coimbra Group is offering scholarships to finance short-term research visits of Latin American young professors and researchers. These grants are aims at favouring mobility and academic exchange between the two regions, Europe and Latin America. Coimbra Group universities participating in the 2013/2014 edition are Aarhus University (Denmark), University of Coimbra (Portugal), University of Granada (Spain), University of Graz (Austria), University of Iasi (Romania), University of Jena (Germany), University of Leiden (The Netherlands), University of Leuven (Belgium), University of Louvain (Belgium), University of Padova (Italy), University of Poitiers (France), University of Salamanca (Spain) and University of Tartu (Estonia). The online application is available until 29th March 2013.

Study Subject(s): The scholarship is available for studying all disciplines offered by the host partner universities except university of Salamanca which offer program only in law, economy, humanities and social sciences.

Course Level: The scholarship is offered for short-term research visits.

Scholarship can be taken at: Europe (Denmark, Portugal, Spain, Austria, Romania, Germany, The Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, France and Estonia).

Eligibility: Requirements for the applicants

-To be a national of and currently resident in a Latin American country.  Candidates already in Europe will not be considered.

-To hold a university degree or equivalent.

-To be linked as a professor or researcher to a Latin American University recognised as such by the authorities of the country.

-To use the Coimbra Group Office electronic application process.  Only one application per candidate will be accepted.

-To submit online an Acceptance Letter/email from by the tutor/partner with whom the work programme will be undertaken in the host institution. This document is mandatory.

-Candidates should be under 40 years of age when submitting the application.

-Previously selected candidates can apply for a second grant but they will not be prioritized.

-Please do not apply if you are a Master student.

Scholarship Open for Students of Following Countries: Scholarships are available for the students of Argentina, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Panama, Bolivia, Cuba, Haiti, Paraguay, Brazil, Dominican Republic, Honduras, Peru, Chile, Ecuador, Mexico, Uruguay, Colombia, El Salvador, Nicaragua and Venezuela.

Scholarship Description: The “Coimbra Group Scholarship Programme for Young Professors and Researchers from Latin American Universities” was launched for the first time  in January 2004. This initiative, which offers grants to finance short-term research visits, aims at favoring mobility and academic exchange between the two regions, Europe and Latin America. The Coimbra Group is an association of 40 European universities, which promotes exchanges between European and Latin American researchers and academics. This call for applications for research visit grants is one of the ways in which exchanges are supported.

What does it cover? Aarhus University (Denmark) – €1300/month + reimbursement of travel expenses up to €1000, University of Coimbra (Portugal)- €750/month + reimbursement of travel expenses up to €1100, University of Granada (Spain)- €900/month + health insurance + travel expenses up to €800, University of Graz (Austria)- 1000€/month + reimbursement of travel expenses up to €600, University of Iasi (Romania) – Accommodation and meals + reimbursement of travel expenses up to €800, University of Jena (Germany) – €1000/month + travel expenses up to €500 + health insurance  , University of Leiden (The Netherlands)- €3880 total, University of Leuven (Belgium)- €1600/month, University of Louvain (Belgium)- €1600/month, University of Padova (Italy)- €950/month + reimbursement of travel expenses up to €950, University of Poitiers (France)- €1000/month + reimbursement of travel expenses up to 700€, University of Salamanca (Spain)- €1100/month and University of Tartu (Estonia)- €600/month + accommodation.

Selection Criteria: The final selection will be made in accordance to the following criteria:

- Academic skills of the applicant.

-Experience as a professor or/and researcher.

-Curriculum Vitae assessment.

-Coherence between the programme proposed by the applicant and his/her academic background and experience.

-Immediate benefits of the research visit for the academic and

-scientific future of the candidate and of the participating institutions.

How to Apply: The online application is available until 29 March 2013 on the Coimbra Group website. After submitting the online application, a confirmation message will automatically be sent to the e-mail address provided by the candidate with a copy of the application. This will be your only acknowledgement of receipt. If you don’t receive a confirmation message this means that your application was not submitted correctly.
