Faculty of Science – Delta-Institute for Theoretical Physics (D-ITP) at University of Amsterdam is offering PhD Position.  The position is offered in the field of Theoretical Cosmology. Eligibility: Successful applicants will have outstanding academic grades and should have obtained, or be about to obtain, a Masters degree in theoretical physics which includes a strong foundation in quantum field theory and general relativity. Note that PhD students are also expected to be fluent in English.

Scholarship Description: The cosmology section of the Delta-Institute for Theoretical Physics (D-ITP) is based at the Institute for Theoretical Physics in Amsterdam. The D-ITP theoretical cosmology section consists of faculty members Tomislav Prokopec at the University of Utrecht, Ana Achucarro and Koenraad Schalm at Leiden University and Ben Freivogel and Jan Pieter van der Schaar at the University of Amsterdam. Furthermore there are close contacts and overlapping interests with the other faculty members of the D-ITP and the Gravitation and AstroParticle Physics Amsterdam (GRAPPA) center of excellence, along with a significant number of postdoctoral researchers and PhD students. The group features a stimulating atmosphere, a diverse range of nationalities, and an active visitor program. The interests of the theoretical cosmology section of D-ITP range from effective field theory descriptions of (eternal) inflation, string cosmology to the comparison to Cosmic Microwave Background and large scale structure observables.

Duration of awards: The appointment will be on a temporary basis for a period of 4 years (initial appointment will be for a period of 18 months and after satisfactory evaluation it can be extended for a total duration of 4 years) and should lead to a dissertation (PhD thesis).

What does it cover? Based on a full-time appointment (38 hours per week) the gross monthly salary will range from €2.062 in the first year to €2664 in the last year. The Collective Employment Agreement (CAO) of the Dutch Universities is applicable.
