The Christian Faith rest upon the foundation principles of the Doctrine of the Lord Jesus Christ. These truths of the Gospel contain the very essence of the Christian experience and lifestyle. It is of the utmost importance that we understand these principles and adhere to them if we name the Name of Christ, because they are the very substance of the Good News which was given to the holy apostles by the Lord Jesus Christ for the building of His church, the body of Christ. Let us now look at the third of these foundational doctrines, the Doctrine of Baptisms. (Each of these six foundational principles of the Doctrine of Christ are found in the Book of Hebrews, chapter six, verses one and two in The Holy Bible). The first thing concerning the Doctrine of Baptisms to take note of is that it is Baptisms, plural, not baptism, singular.

Immediately, someone may say, "See, the Bible contradicts itself. For in another passage of Scripture it says that there is one baptism." But let me assure you that there is no contradiction in the Bible. There is only much misunderstanding concerning how to rightly divide the Word of Truth. (2 Timothy 2:15).

There is a passage in the Book of Ephesians Chapter four, verses four through six, which states that, "There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, Who is above all, and through all, and in you all."

The context of this passage reveals to us the first of the three baptisms spoken of in the Scriptures, which is the only baptism connected to your eternal salvation. In other words, when a person repents (lesson one) and turns to God through Christ, (lesson two) the Spirit of God takes that person and baptizes them into the Body of Christ. This is spoken of in 1 Corinthians 12: 12-30. The body of Christ is the true church of God made up of all who live under the Lordship of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Just because an individual belongs to a local church, does not mean that he or she is a part of the true church. To be a part of God's holy and called out people, you must receive Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior.

When speaking of the one baptism in the Book of Ephesians, he is referring to the fact that this one baptism is the only one of the baptisms that happens immediately when you receive Christ. It is the baptism done by the Holy Spirit the moment you give your life to Christ and receive the cleansing power of His blood. With this baptism you are a child of God, a part of the church and the Holy Spirit of God now lives within our hearts.

Notice carefully that I did not take that Scripture out of its setting and context. This is vital to remember when interpreting the Sacred Scriptures.

Now after one becomes a child of God (this is the same thing as being born again, born from above, being saved, or becoming a Christian) through receiving Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, he or she should then experience baptism in water as an outward sign of what has transpired within. Our Lord Jesus Christ was and is our greatest example and He was baptized in water. Even so, if we profess to be His, we should follow in His steps. We should not be baptized in water to be saved. Salvation is provided for us through the shed blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. When we receive Him as Lord, we are saved. (Romans 10: 9-13) Now that we are saved, we should also be baptized in water to show to the world, and the devil and even to our own souls (minds) that just as Christ died, was buried and arose from the dead, even so, we have died to our old way of life, and by being placed under the water, we have been buried with Him, and by coming up from under the water, we have risen with Christ, to live a new life. Here is an interesting thing to notice. The word baptism comes from a Greek word which means immersion. This is found in James Strong's Concordance of the Bible. To be baptized according to the Christian Faith is to be immerse or submerged in water, so that it can signify that you died and was buried with Christ and that you arose to live a new life unto Him.

The third kind of baptism also occurs after salvation and that is the baptism with the Holy Spirit, which is an enduement and supernatural empowerment from Heaven. This enables the believer to do the work of God, by His Spirit and in His Power. Every believer should be filled with the Spirit of God and work with Him in spreading His Gospel for the aid of man-kind throughout the world who desperately needs a living and loving Savior, Who paid the price of His blood to redeem all who will come to Him in simple faith and receive Him as Lord.
