Open you web browser and go to the Microsoft Passport Web site.

Find either the option Get Started Now or the option Sign Up Today on the Microsoft Passport Web site home page. You can choose any one of the two links. You will be redirected to a page wherein you can create a free Hotmail account and use it as email. The second link will let you create a new account using the existing email Id.   

Now click on the Get Started Now link (the second link). As mentioned above, this link will let you create an account with an existing email account. You will find the wordings Use an Email Address You Already Have under the second link. You will be taken to the Hotmail sign up page if you had clicked on the first link.

You will be asked to enter the email address details into the Email address space so as to sign up for a Hotmail account. Once you are done, proceed to the next screen by hitting the OK button.
Re-enter the email address to create the passport account on the passport account sign up page.
Choose a password combination and enter it into the Password field. You will be asked to retype your password once you are done with it.
Make sure that your password strength is good enough.

Steps to log into MSN messenger with your passport account
Launch the MSN Messenger on your desktop.
Type your Email Address in the space labeled the same
Now make the cursor move to the Password tab.
Type in your MSN Passport account Password and hit the Sign In icon to complete the sign in process.
