On Sunday, The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria went against the disruption of the Sultan Abubakar III International Airport runway by devotees of some politicians, who invaded the airport with the aim of welcoming their leaders.
FAAN equally warned politicians to prohibit disobeying safety plans at the airport especially as it is getting close to the general elections coming up in 2019.
The General Manager, Corporate Affairs, FAAN, Henrietta Yakubu, explained the latest event in Sokoto as bad and declared that the circumstance was ultimately sorted out by the aviation security crew of the agency.
She mentioned, “The unfortunate incident, which occurred on Friday, August 3, 2018, is a gross violation of the security and safety arrangements at the airport, as thousands of political loyalists violently accessed restricted areas at the airport, breaking down the airport fence in the process and resisting all security machineries in place.
“However, our team of aviation security officers were able to curtail the situation and normalcy was restored at the airport.”
Yakubu mentioned politicians and their devotees must understand that the airport surrounding was a remarkably monitored place and should be viewed like that.
“As the 2019 general elections are drawing closer, the authority will like to advise the general public, especially politicians and their supporters, to ensure compliance with all rules and regulations at the airports, as we will not compromise security and safety at our airports for any reason,” she added.
However, she guaranteed travellers and airport customers that FAAN was dedicated to its main safety values, protection and succour.
