The University of Antwerp is a publicly funded and fully accredited Belgian university. It is characterised by its high standards in education, internationally competitive research and entrepreneurial approach. It was founded in 2003 after the merger of three smaller universities.


 
The university has nine faculties: (1) Applied Economics (2) Arts (3) Law (4) Medicine and Health Sciences (5) Pharmaceutical, Biomedical and Veterinary Sciences (6) Social Sciences (7) Science ( Design Sciences (9) Applied Engineering. Doctoral programmes are available in all faculties, with more than 1,600 PhD students registered.



In nine domains our research is among the best in the world: Drug Discovery and Development; Ecology and Sustainable Development; Harbour, Transport and Logistics; Imaging; Infectious Diseases; Materials Characterisation; Neurosciences; Socio-economic Policy and Organisation; Urban History and Contemporary Urban Policy.

University of Antwerp Tuition fee:
bachelor, master, teacher training programme, preparatory and bridging programmes

The following rate applies to the tuition fee for bachelor and master programmes (except masters with increased tuition fees – see below), teacher training programmes and preparatory and bridging programmes (diplomacontract):
238.3 euro + 11.4 euro/credit.

Some master programmes have an increased tuition fee for student with a nationality which does not belong to one of the member states of the European Economic Area (EEA)*:

Master of Biomedical Sciences: 250 euro + 44 euro/credit**
Master of Applied Economic Sciences: Business Economics: 250 euro + 44 euro/credit**
Master of Applied Economic Sciences: Economic Policy: 250 euro + 44 euro/credit**
Master of Biology: 250 euro + 44 euro/credit**
Master of Chemistry: 250 euro + 44 euro/credit**
Master of Computer Science: 250 euro + 44 euro/credit**
Master of Physics: 250 euro + 44 euro/credit**
Master of Law: 250 euro + 44 euro/credit**
Master of Political Science: 250 euro + 44 euro/credit**
Master of Rehabilitation Science and Physiotherapy (including the bridging and preparatory programmes): 250 euro + 44 euro/credit**
The following master programme always has an increased tuition fee:


 
European Master in Comparative Vertebrate Morphology (Erasmus Mundus; details about the payment can be found on http://www.eucomor.net):
nationality of an EEA-member state*: 3000 euro***
other nationalities: 6000 euro***
Master of Leading International Vaccinology Education (Erasmus Mundus; details betreffende de betaling op http://live.univ-lyon1.fr):
nationality of an EEA-member state*: 4500 euro***
other nationalities: 9000 euro***

** reduction to 26 euro/credit is possible if all the following conditions apply: new students belong to the top 20% of their class which gives access to the programme (existing students should get excellent results in their first year of enrolment), students belong to a Least Developed Country (LDC) or Other Low Income Countries (OLIC) country of the DAC list, students have not yet obtained a master’s degree, students do not have a scholarship and the request for reduction has been approved by the faculty before the start of the academic year.

Admission Requirements And Procedure
You need an academic master degree to apply for a PhD.  There is no deadline to submit an admission application for a PhD.

Those who do PhDs have a passion for research! Doing a PhD shows that you can make a significant, independent contribution to your discipline.

The title of “doctor” is the highest rank you can achieve at a Flemish university and defending your PhD in public is the ultimate proof of independent, original scientific research.
