Admission Into Heidelberg University:
To be admitted for an undergraduate programme, a prospective student needs a higher education entrance qualification as well as a very good knowledge of the German language.

If your higher-education entrance qualification is not fully equivalent to the German “Abitur”, you will be required to pass an assessment test (the “Internationales Studienzentrum” is part of the University of Heidelberg. Its aim is to prepare students for studying at post-high school level by teaching them German and the specific knowledge required).

University places for prospective students from non-EU/EEA countries with foreign university entrance qualifications are directly allocated by the university.

Admission procedures differ between subjects. An assessment of the whether the applicant fulfils the admission requirements (university entrance qualification, German language skills…) will generally be conducted in the case of applications for a degree programme that have been submitted in time and in the prescribed form.

The standard application period applies for all undergraduate degree programmes at Heidelberg University (May to 15 July for the winter semester; November to 15 January for the summer semester).

Applications for all undergraduate degree programmes must be made online via the application platform for international students.

The PDF file generated by the platform at the end of the online application procedure must be printed and signed by the applicant. It must then be submitted with all necessary documents to the university before the expiration of the respective application period.

The application procedure for medicine, pharmacy and dentistry can be found on the university website.

EU and EEA nationals do not need a visa and can apply for a certificate of freedom of movement (Freizügigkeitsbescheinigung”) with the local foreigners’ registration office.

The online registration for Heidelberg University for international prospective students has expired on 15 January or 15 July. The portal will probably be available again in early November or May.
