Introduction of Information Technology as a subject in Nigerian secondary schools has been described as a necessity that would assist Nigeria in achieving her developmental goals, Dr. Patrick Katuka, Executive Secretary of Kaduna State Aids Control Agency (SACA), has said.
Speaking at an award presentation to proprietor of Dagama’s Legacy Schools, Zaria, Mr.
Michael Dagama, by the National Association of Northern Nigerian Students (NANNS), Katuka said the knowledge of information technology at secondary school level can produce young Nigerians that can change the developmental pace of the country.
In his paper ‘Impact of ICT Knowledge in Secondary Schools’, Katuka however identified corruption, materialism and laziness as some of the factors that may hinder the achievement of ICT development in Nigeria.
Earlier in his remark, Mr. Dagama of the Legacy Schools said in order to make his students move in line with global ICT challenges, his school has introduced e-learning that would assist parents to easily monitor the performance of their children.
