Combining University studies and Part-time job as a Nigerian student can be quite an enormous task or impossible fit to achieve. Statistics have shown that only about 2% of Nigerian students have at one time taken a Part-time job during their studies.
Taking a part-time work does not necessarilly affects ones grades or studies in school, as many Nigerian students thought.
There are many skills or jobs you can take, that will not affect you while schooling. You only need to plan your schedules properly enough to fit in.
1. The Money (Obviously)
This part will interest you. The part-time job will, of course, give you the experience but hey, the money that comes with it is a good incentive.
As a student who has a part-time job, you won’t struggle to settle financial demands on campus. Your earnings will help you ease those financial pressure.
2. It teaches you responsibility
Having a job and making money will confer certain responsibilities on you. First, you learn how to make financial decisions. As a student, you might not learn this until after graduation, but with your part-time job, you learn about budgeting.
3. You learn time management skills
Staying in bed or watching your series during your free time on campus may seem ideal, after all, you have nothing to do. But while it is important to have some free time to yourself, it is equally important to make money with that free time.
This might seem a bit arduous though, but you’ll surely be doing something productive with your time instead of staying in bed in your free time.
4. The work experience
Having a part-time job prepares you for life after graduation because it gives you the job experience your employers want to see on your resume.
Aside this, your part-time job will also give you a taste of life in the workplace as it helps you transition from student life to an employed graduate seamlessly.
5. It improves your “people skills”
Ability to work with others effectively is one of the benefits you’ll derive from having a part-time job as a student. Teamwork is one skill employers look for in job seekers CV and having had a part job while in school, you can easily tell them how well you’ve worked with others as a team player.
