10 Most Beautiful University Buildings in the World. Recently we made a post about the University of Ghana, and we were pleased with the beauty. So we decided to research on beautiful universities and architectural wonders around the world. Below are some of the most beautiful we saw:
1. Biblioteca Central is the Central Library, the main library in the Ciudad Universitaria Campus of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). And it is a magnificent sight to behold.
2. Cambride University is one of the oldest institutions in Academia. Yet it boasts buildings with a modern history. The Faculty of History was built in 1968 and is a beauty in its own right.
3. Lomonosov Moscow State University is a coeducational and public research university located in Moscow, Russia. It was founded on January 25, 1755 by Mikhail Lomonosov. MSU was renamed after Lomonosov in 1940 and was then known asLomonosov University. It also claims to house the tallest educational building in the world.
4. The Philological Library (German: Philologische Bibliothek) is the newest component of the “Rust and Silver Lodges” complex in the main campus of the Freie Universität Berlin. It was designed by internationally known architect Norman Foster, Baron Foster of Thames Bank in the shape of a human brain, and opened in 2005. The library merges the separate smaller libraries of the departments and institutes of humanities.
5. Run Run Shaw Creative Media Centre is an academic building on the campus of the City University of Hong Kong which was built in 2011. It is located on Tat Hong Avenue,Kowloon Tong, to the north of City University’s main campus. It was designed by Daniel Libeskind cooperating with Leigh and Orange Ltd. The building received architectural awards from Emporis and International Property Awards.
6. The Swanston Academic building is an RMIT building designed by the architecture firm Lyons and is located on Swanston Street in Melbourne, Australia across from Peter Corrigan designed building 8 and ARM’s Storey Hall.
7. University of Cape Town South Africa: The University of Cape Town (UCT) is a public research university located in Cape Town in the Western Capeprovince of South Africa. UCT was founded in 1829 as the South African College, and is the oldest university in South Africa and the second oldest extant university in Africa. The language of instruction is English.
8. University of Otago, New Zealand: The University of Otago in Dunedin is New Zealand‘s oldest university. It had over 21,000 students enrolled during 2011. The university has New Zealand’s highest average research quality and in New Zealand is second only to theUniversity of Auckland in the number of A rated academic researchers it employs. It topped the New Zealand Performance Based Research Fund evaluation in 2006.
9. University of Oxford, UK: The University of Oxford (informally Oxford University or simply Oxford) is a collegiate research universitylocated in Oxford, England. While having no known date of foundation, there is evidence of teaching as far back as 1096, making it the oldest university in the English-speaking world and the world’s second-oldest surviving university.
10. The Queens University of Belfast, Nothern Ireland: Queen’s University Belfast is a public research university in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The university’s official title, per its charter, is The Queen’s University of Belfast. It is often referred to simply as Queen’s, or by the abbreviationQUB. The university was chartered in 1845, and opened in 1849 as “Queen’s College, Belfast”, but has roots going back to 1810 and the Royal Belfast Academical Institution.
