Davido has opened up on his style of music which he referred to as ‘Afrofusion’.
According to him, what he puts out is quite different from the usual Afrobeat people know.
He went on to mention popular genres of African music and why he thinks they are different from what he puts out. “I don’t call my music Afrobeats, I call it Afrofusion,” he said,
davido-obo“You know the originator of the Afrobeats is Fela. Fela has a sound which I can say has heavy baseline, the Rhodes, brass instrument, and the percussion is different.”
The ‘Aye’ singer, Davido added that his song ‘Gobe’ is Afro mixed with Calypso. “But I feel like the Afrobeats is catchy and has caught wave since time.”
“I can’t really tell you the difference between Afropop and Afrobeats. I know some songs that I won’t call Afrobeats; I would call them Afropop or Afrotrap.”
Recall that the singer successfully completed his final year project last year and he wrote on an interesting topic which gave insight on what performers like him pass through when they mount the stage.
