People go into romantic relationships for various reasons. I think the main purpose
of relationship is to complement the other person. It is more about what you can
add than what you can get. If this is your idea of a relationship, then you need
trust to make such a relationship work. The two people involved should put in the
needed effort to earn each other trust . Don’t forget trust is the bedrock for
building a strong and lasting relationship.
Here are 6 ways to build trust in a romantic relationship;
Be A True Confidant: There are certain things your partner may share with you
that he/she does not want someone else to know about. Your partner expects you
to keep such things just between the two of you. Also do not use those things as
way of getting back at or attacking him or her anytime there’s argument between
the two of you. These will only be seen as betrayal by your partner and nothing
kills trust as fast as betrayal.
When You Make A Promise, Fulfill It: Make sure you try to fulfill promises that
you make to your partner. I know that there are times that this may not really be
possible to do just like you’ve promised, but then let him or her see that you
made effort to fulfill your promise. If even he or she may have forgotten still go
ahead and do it. This will build your partner’s confidence on you. And that’s the
foundation for trust.
Never Put Your Partner Down In Public: When you put your partner down before
others, you are only sending the signal than you do not value his or her presence
in your life. Yeah. That’s true. We protect and esteem whatever we value. Even if
he or she has done something you do not approve of, address the issue (in
private) without being verbally abusive.
Be As Open As Possible: There is need to avoid unnecessary secrecy with your
partner (Unless the relationship is not real in the first place). Things like denying
your partner access to your phone, will only breed suspicion. Tell the truth and be
transparent enough. Lies and pretense will only eat up your relationship gradually.
Relationships fail when one or both partners are not open, sincere and transparent
as they should. I am not saying you should spill everything at the beginning of
your relationship, however, as the relationship grows, there’s need to share some
personal and intimate information.
Sincerely Apologize When You Are Wrong: When we are reluctant to say sorry for
our wrongs, we are only doing more harm to the relationship. Do not try to justify
your wrongs or play smart. Admit it and sincerely apologize. Sincerely apologizing
for your wrongs is a sign that you have the interest of the relationship at heart.
Respect Your Relationship: Your respect for the relationship is measured by how
much you are willing to make it work. When you are committed to making a
relationship work, it is easily obvious. Consistent acts of Infidelity only shows that
you have little or no regard for that relationship. It is hard for your partner to
count on you or trust you when that is the case. If you sense a relationship
cannot work, it is better to call the attention of the other person, sought things
and go your separate ways than playing games.
