Mr Edgar Amos, the Chairman, Nigeria
Veterinary Doctors, Adamawa branch, on
Tuesday, said the state government
recruited more than 200 veterinary doctors
in 2013.
Amos made the disclosure at the
presentation of the 2013 Best Veterinary
Award to Gov. Murtala Nyako in Yola.
He said the recruitment was part of efforts
to boost essential animal protein in the
state.
He added that the conferment of the award
on the governor was based on merit,
following the implementation of a policy on
livestock production and veterinary services
in the state.
The chairman said “Adamawa is among the
few states that established Ministry of
Livestock Production and recruited qualified
veterinary doctors in the country.
“The government supported veterinary
services and ensured the welfare of
members.’’
According to him, the efforts of the state
government will ensure the treatment and
control of animal diseases that are
dangerous to human lives.
Amos said veterinary doctors in Adamawa
were involved in public health protection
programmes aimed at making sure that
essential animal proteins were available,
affordable and safe for people.
Responding, Nyako thanked the veterinary
doctors for the recognition and pledged to
continue with key programmes that would
promote veterinary development in the
state.
He said the state government was making
consultations with some international
livestock producers on how to improve the
handling of livestock from traditional to
modern techniques.
