Students of the Lagos State University
(LASU), Ojo, Lagos went on rampage today
Thursday 23rd January 2014; disrupting the
institution’s second semester examination
and destroying properties.
The protest kicked off yesterday when the
university’s registration portal was closed.
Over 2000 students were yet to register for
their second semester courses as exams
were to begin today.
It is also revealed that banks were still
collecting the increased tuition fee from
students.
It led to the stoning of the University Vice
Chancellor Professor John Obafunwa.
According to P.M. News, an eye witness
revealed that students threw sticks and
stones at the VC’s convoy as he tried to
escape through an alternative route beside
Conoil Filling station.
The Student Union Government plead on
behalf of the students but the VC said that
the unregistered students are
“insignificant” and would have to carry the
session over.
The statement made students take matters
into their hands.

TOKYO – Toyota sold a record 9.98 million
vehicles last year, it said Thursday, outpacing
rivals General Motors and Volkswagen to
maintain its title of world’s biggest
automaker.
The Japanese auto giant’s highest-ever
annual sales volume came thanks to a
weaker yen as well as strong US and China
sales, signalling it had recovered from a
series of damaging safety recalls and Japan’s
2011 quake-tsunami disaster.
The figures beat US-based GM, which said it
sold 9.71 million cars last year, while
Germany’s Volkswagen logged annual sales
of 9.5 million.
Toyota broke GM’s decades-long reign as
world’s top automaker in 2008 but lost the
crown three years later as the quake-
tsunami hammered production and
disrupted the supply chains of Japanese
automakers.
However, in 2012 it once again overtook its
Detroit rival, which sells the Chevrolet and
luxury Cadillac brands. GM’s strong results
come after it emerged from bankruptcy and
a government bailout during the 2008
global economic crisis.
Toyota, maker of the Camry sedan and Prius
hybrid, also said Thursday it expects this
year to become the first automaker to break
the 10 million vehicle sales barrier.
That growth would be driven by overseas
demand — Toyota expects volume at home
to slip 5.0 percent this year as consumer
demand takes a hit from an April sales tax
hike.
Toyota has outmanoeuvred other
automakers with a “comprehensive edge”
in product lineup, sales network and cost
structure, said SMBC Nikko Securities auto
analyst Shotaro Noguchi.
“They have maintained that balance well,
compared to its rivals,” he said.
“Toyota should have reached the 10 million
mark sooner if they had not faced major
negative factors like the impact of the quake
disaster and flooding in Thailand.”
But he warned that the auto giant should
not get complacent, adding: “If they only pay
attention to production and sales figures,
they could lose their competitive edge and
wind up in trouble.”
China, emerging markets driving sales
The sales figures cap off an impressive
comeback for Toyota, which took a heavy
blow from a series of mass recalls affecting
millions of cars that damaged its once-stellar
reputation for quality and safety and led to
US congressional hearings in 2010.
The firm has said it expects a net profit of
1.67 trillion yen ($16.02 billion) in the fiscal
year to March thanks to a sharply weaker
yen and improving sales in North America.
Toyota has ramped up its drive to tap
emerging markets while key US demand has
also been on the upswing, helping the firm
book ever-increasing profits with its half-
year earnings surging 82.5 percent.
Japanese industry has benefited from the
big-spending and easy-money policies of
Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, with huge
monetary easing measures from the
premier’s hand-picked team at the Bank of
Japan helping push down the currency.
The weaker currency boosts Japanese
manufacturers’ bottom line by making them
more competitive overseas and inflating
repatriated overseas profits.
The latest sales also signal improving
demand in China after Japanese automakers
were hammered in 2012 by a damaging
consumer boycott in the world’s biggest
vehicle market that was sparked by a
territorial spat between Tokyo and Beijing.
Toyota has also announced plans to develop
components for hybrid vehicles with two
Chinese automakers, in an unprecedented
technology-sharing deal aimed at increasing
green car sales in the fast-growing market.
The move marked shift away from Japanese
carmakers’ traditional reluctance over such
deals for fear of losing their competitive
edge.
Previously, Toyota would make key
components such as batteries and motors in
high-cost Japan and then ship them to joint
ventures overseas. But that drove up the
price of models such as its Prius, which has
seen sluggish sales in China.
China’s pollution problem has stoked big
demand for environmentally friendly cars,
such as electric and fuel-cell vehicles, while
officials have promised stricter emissions
standards to deal with the mushrooming
public-health issue.
Toyota’s shares fell 1.32 percent to 6,256
yen in Tokyo before the sales figures were

Samsung's been doing its La Fleur thing for
quite a while now, giving popular Samsung
devices a custom paintjob specifically
targeted at the female audience.
The latest smartphone to be joining the La
Fleur lineup is the Samsung Galaxy S4. The
news was confirmed today through a
couple of images, which popped up on
Twitter today.
No word on pricing or availability yet, but
our guess is that it'll be available before MWC
next month, where Samsung is expected to
out at least one new device. A launch ahead
of Valentine's day seems likely given the
nature of the smartphone.
By recent accounts the MWC won't bring the
Galaxy S5, which one Samsung exec says will
instead be unveiled in March, likely at an
Unpacked event like the S4 and S III before
it.

The Explosives Ordnance Disposal Command
of the Nigerian Police Force has taken
delivery of Explosive Detection Canine (EDC)
which will be deployed to all Nigerian
airports, seaports and land borders. EDCs
are dogs trained in the detection of bombs
and dangerous explosives. According to the
Police commissioner, the deployment was a
part of the command’s strategies to
improve on its operations nationwide.
Anytime from now, EDC will be deployed to
all the airports, seaports and our strategic
borders because they increase security and
enhance explosives detection. The dogs
have expertise in conducting large scale
sweeps of facilities that are used in
airports, seaports and land borders. To this
end, security will be maximised and
consolidated in all these places. We also
want to assure members of the public that
the command is fully prepared in 2014 to
tackle any Improvise Explosives Device (IED)
anywhere in the country, the commissioner
stated.

Seven suspected homosexuals who
were yesterday taken to Upper Court 4
in Anguwan Jaki, Bauchi State for trial
narrowly escaped lynching by an angry
mob at the court premises.
The development forced security
personnel at the court premises to
rescue the suspects by firing gunshots
in the air and using teargas to disperse
the mob.
One of the suspects, Ibrahim Marafa was
identified as the Principal of a
Government Secondary School in the
state.
The other suspects are Shehu Adamu,
Yusuf Adamu, Aliyu Dalhatu, Abdulmalik
Tanko, Usman Sabo and Hazif Sabo
Abubakar.
The angry mob hurled stones at the van
carrying them as it sped dangerously
back to prison, with a few
people sustained injuries in the process.
The suspects faced charges of allegedly
engaging in gay activities in Bauchi
State, an action that contravenes the
Islamic laws which the state is
operating.
Police Public Relations Officer, DSP
Haruna Mohammed, said the suspects
were arrested by the Bauchi State Sharia
Commission.

For the sixth time, the Presidency shifted
yesterday the National Economic Council
(NEC) meeting.
Governors, who were already in Abuja, were
dissappointed.
Vice President Namadi Sambo is the
chairman of NEC.
The meeting was fixed for today. A new
date was not announced.
The postponement, it was gathered,
followed plans by the governors to raise
issues on the controversial $49.8b oil money
in dispute between the Central Bank of
Nigeria and the Nigerian National Petroleum
Corporation (NNPC).
Although the “missing” money was reduced
to $10.8billion after a reconciliation meeting,
the governors are demanding a probe of
the $49.8billion.
It was learnt that the postponement
followed security reports that the governors
had adopted six more posers, including
some that had been raised earlier by
Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State, for
discussion at the meeting.
The posers are:
•How much oil does the country produce
daily?
•Clarification that the benchmark price for
oil in the 2013 budget was $79?
•Is it a fact that crude oil was sold at prices
that hovered around $110 per day
throughout the year?
•Where is the $30 differential between the
benchmark price of $79 and the actual sale
price which averaged $110 per barrel
during the period?
•How much exactly has Nigeria earned from
its oil sales in 2013 and what percentage of
the budget is funded by these receipts?
•Why was NEC not consulted on 2014
Budget before presentation?
A governor, who spoke in confidence, said:
“We have all arrived in Abuja for the meeting
on the state of the economy, but it has been
shifted. No date has been communicated to
us.
“This is the sixth time they have postponed
the NEC meeting, a constitutionally,
recognised organ. Nigerians should ask:
what are they hiding that they do not want
NEC meeting to hold?
“Do you know that governors were not
consulted on the 2014 Budget before it was
presented to the National Assembly?
Another governor said: “They are afraid that
most of us had prepared to take up issues
with the Federal Government on the
controversial $49.8billion which neither the
NNPC nor the Minister of Finance has been
able to clear.
“We cannot be suppressed in any manner;
we will certainly address all these issues
whenever they deem it fit to cause a NEC
meeting.”
A third governor said: “It is sad that for
many months, the NEC session has not been
convened by the presidency. This is a
violation of the 1999 Constitution.
“The Presidency has refused to invite us to
either NEC or Council of State meeting
because they are afraid that we will ask
questions on the economy on behalf of
Nigerians.
“We learnt that they are afraid that we
might cause upset at the meeting. This is
based on false reports that governors were
already agitated.”
A fourth governor said: “My brother, it is
painful that we have to take the risk of
coming to Abuja only to be turned back. If
you know the cost of logistics of a governor
moving out of his state with security aides
and officials, you will appreciate our anger.
“I think we can be tidier than we are now
on NEC meeting.”
The Special Adviser to the Vice-President on
Media and Publicity, Alhaji Umar Sani, said:
“The postponement, I think, was due to an
administrative problem. Those at the
secretariat in the National Planning
Commission have not been able to send
invitation to everybody. It has nothing to do
with the Vice President Namadi Sambo.
“We will hold the meeting, I think by next
week. You cannot avoid something that you
must do. It is the National Planning
Commission that calls for the meeting. And
so many meetings have been cancelled
because of some circumstances.”
Asked if the NEC session was postponed
because of the controversy over $49.8billio,
Sani added: “Are we not the people who
called for the meeting? Why would we be
afraid of anything to be discussed?
“Is there any issue of $49.8billion when
even the CBN Governor, Sanusi Lamido
Sanusi, came back to say that the money in
question was $10.8billion?
“Even if the governors raise the issue at NEC
meeting, we will call on NNPC to give
account.
Sections 18 and 19 of the Third Schedule,
Part 1 to the 1999 Constitution say: “ The
National Economic Council shall comprise the
following members -
a. The Vice President who shall be the
Chairman
b. The Governor of each state of the
Federation; and
c. The Governor of the Central Bank of
Nigeria established under the Central Bank
of Nigeria Decree 1991 or any enactment
replacing that Decree.
“The National Economic Council shall have
power to advise the President concerning
the economic affairs of the Federation, and
in particular on measures necessary for the
co-ordination of the economic planning
efforts or economic programmes of the
various governments of the Federation.”

True love can never be expressed or
defined by any author without having a
knowledge of how God expressed it with
mankind. As civilization increases, the real
meaning of love became altered and there
is a dire need for a 'true' show of love
between people as selfishness and lust
increased. This led to the search of true
love. As old as the world is, the real meaning
oflove remains as it is, whether 'true' is
added or not. However, our understanding
and exposure is the only factor that affects
the sincere expression of love.
Love has different definitions because of
the way people practices it. Lots of people
have come up with different expressions of
love. Some said it is a feeling, it builds up
from the emotion, it is wicked, it is
dangerous, it does not exist anymore or it is
attachedto certain conditions such as sex,
money or gift. With all these recent
traditions about love, the original purpose
has been
manipulated whilst the rest of the world
now live with the perverted form of love -
lust.
This perverted form has led to abuse,
cheating, covetousness, wickedness,
violence and other relationship issues we
experience today. How is it possible to
victimize the person you love? Never! To
understand the real meaning of love, we
need to go back to the Beginning where
God created Man in His image. I would like
to be quick in drawing my point here
because of some people who frown at the
existence of God. Take note of the
keywords; out of love, He made us in His
image and likeness (special). Even when we
disobeyed Him (imperfection), He remained
faithful (committed) to us despite our
imperfections. However, if you do not love
God, it would be very difficult for you to love
your neighbours as yourself. Your
consciousness of loving God will guard you
as to how you'd love others. This is the
genesis of true love.
Mind you, the devil deceived Eve because he
was not created in God's image. Out of
jealousy, he lied to Eve, she lust after the lies
and love was taken out of man's mentality
and replaced with lust. Today, lots of female
folks believes in deceit rather than in
truths.
To fully understand true love or love the
way God expressed it; there must be:
1. A special person
God did not just decide to create man in the
image of a lion, eagle or after the likes of
angels. He did create us in His own image.
He did not choose to love a Gorilla or
Elephant, He chose you. This implies that
you are special in the sight of God. He loved
us more than the angels, animals and His
other creatures. Are we not special?
If love must be expressed, there must be a
special person in your life which you must
love above all (except God). Not everybody
that becomes your friend should be the
right or special person you ought to love.
Many people expressed love sincerely to the
wrong partner and it generated issues in
their relationship. Some people are to be
treated as gold, some silver and others as
bronze. If you hold a bronze dear to you,
you will prevent your chances of getting a
gold when it comes. You need prayer to
guidance, patience to prevent desperation
and an observation of people around you to
findthe special person. Remember, the
bible says, "He that finds (search)". The
special person must be found and not
chosen from available options.
2. Sacrifice
When Adam and Eve discovered that they
were naked, God killed a lamb and covered
them with the hides. He sacrificed
something for us so that He can improve
our welfare. Even when we disobeyed Him,
He still catered for our well being. This is
true love.
When you find that special person, do not
expect them to be perfect, your sincere love
will make you love them despite their
imperfections. Many people do think that
their Mr. Right or Miss. Right must be all
perfect. Gold in its raw form isn't precious,
but fire refines it. Your sincere love must be
patient enough to love your spouse/partner
imperfectly. With time, they will bring out
their best.
Love requires the sacrifice of one's energy,
resources, time and effort to improve the
well being of whom we love without
expecting anything in return. It is not
everybody that comes into your life that you
love dearly. You can like them and do your
part to help them. We are not God that can
love everybody equally.
3. Commitment
God was still after the well being of man
despite man's stark disobedience. He made
several attempts to atone for man's sin. Yet,
man could not be reconciled to God until He
gave us His only Son. This shows the state
of commitment.
For love to be enjoyed, there must be a
commitment shown to that special person
and it must be mutual. You can never be
committed to everybody. Commitment
would come as a result of your decision to
cater for the needs of whom you love. But
it's so painful today that most people are
committed to the wrong partner. This will
make them endure and not enjoy the
relationship. They will see warning signs
that the relationship is wrong but their
ignorance will still make them stay.
4. You must love God
Those who are conscious of their love for
God would also love  others unconditionally.
The height of your love for God will
determine the depth of your love for others.
You cannot love God truly and hate your
neighbours, neither can you disregard God
and manifest true love, ceteris paribus.
Those who have the fear of God in them will
notbe abusive, violent, lustful, wicked,
selfish or inhuman. They will love others as
their self - with their weakness,
imperfection and shortcomings.
True love is real and it does exist no matter
how you'd define it or what people may say
about it. The world may change but God's
love remains the same. Only a little fraction
of the world's population still practice true
love. It is the kind of love that is expressed
to a special person and it is sacrificial. It
was this kind of love that God expressed to
mankind despite our imperfections.

1. Law school is not graduate school.
Ever felt like taking a walk down memory-
lane? Well, you’re in luck because the law
school experience has more in common
with middle school than it does with other
graduate programs. On the first day, you
enter the building like you own the place.
You naively think you already understand
the true meaning of life. And then very
quickly you discover that you’re actually just
an awkward and lowly 6th grader all over
again. Thank goodness you can drink this
time!
2. Be nice to everyone, and be careful with
whom you trust.
Unfortunately, a large group of wannabe
lawyers necessarily leads to some vicious
drama (like I said, welcome back to your
middle school cafeteria). And since gossip
spreads like wildfire, everyone in your class
will know whether you have a good or bad
reputation by the end of the first semester.
3. There will be some reshuffling of friend
groups several months into the semester.
Bonds made during orientation will weaken,
and you’ll eventually figure out where you fit
in. Don’t feel bad when you realize you’re
not going to be lifelong BFFs with the
person you thought was your soul-twin. It
happens to most everyone considering how
much time you will end up spending getting
to know your classmates.
4. Be cautious about who you sit next to
during the first week of classes.
Most professors assign a seating chart
based on the spot you choose. So think
twice before grabbing the seat next to the
total babe you thought you hit it off with at
the first bar review. No one wants a daily
meeting with an awkward situation.
5. On that note, if you hook up with a
person in your section….well, don’t.
Convinced they are the love of your life?
Congratulations, and all the best. You’ve
officially been warned.
6. Force yourself to spend time outside of
the law school environment.
When law students are together, the
conversation rarely deviates from the
underlying theme of how stressful school is.
If you would like to avoid a mental
breakdown, find friends who aren’t in law
school and commit to not talking about
school.
7. Lose the ego.
No one wants to know about your great
scholarship or how high your LSAT score
was. In fact, it is totally uncool to talk about.
Law school is graded on a curve and can be
quite competitive. Don’t voluntarily add fuel
to the fire. Ain’t nobody got time for that.
8. Don’t be a gunner.
No one likes a know-it-all. However, if you
can’t help but mentally masturbate during a
lecture, do us a favor and keep it in the
classroom. Your law school friends definitely
don’t want to talk about how much better
you could teach the material. Obviously you
were smart enough to get into law school,
so you should be smart enough to answer
that hypothetical on your own time.
9. It’s okay to be shy.
If you’re an introvert, don’t let all the
extroverts scare you into thinking you made
the wrong choice in attending law school.
While, you’ll initially feel as if you want to
crawl under a rock and die every day for the
next three years of your life, success in both
law school and the legal profession requires
a tremendous amount of alone time. Also,
how much someone talks during class does
not predict how well they will do on the
exam.
10. Try not to become an alcoholic.
Naturally, law students find fun and
relaxation in social activities that mostly
involve copious amounts of alcohol.
Alcoholism is far more prevalent in the legal
profession than it is in the general
population. And while I think it’s totally cool
that my school hosts a keg on campus every
Thursday, addiction to alcohol is not totally
cool.

Pastor who operates and resides in Oyo
State, Pastor Adepoju who was a former
pastor at The Apostolic church, TAC, Oke
Afata, Gbongan in Osun State has stabbed
his pastor friend to death in his home.
Adepoju left Ibadan for Osun State to meet
with Pastor Julius Olusoji Oguntoye in Osun
State pretending to be there for a courtesy
visit.
After Oguntoye welcomed him, Adepoju
immediately brought out a knife from his
suit and stabbed Oguntoye several times. He
stabbed him on his head, chest and
stomach.  While stabbing him, the pastor
accused him of using his glory and that of
his children.
Oguntoye, 48, was buried on Monday in Ede,
Osun State amid tears. Some of his members
described him as an easy going person who
cannot hurt a fly. He was reportedly
transferred to Gbongan five months ago
from Ede, where he served for 12 years as a
Pastor. Interestingly, Adepoju was the best
man of late Oguntoye when he got married
several years ago. The killer has been
arrested by the police.

President Goodluck Jonathan has appointed
the immediate past National Chairman of the
Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Bamanga
Tukur, as Chairman of the Board of the
Nigerian Railway Corporation.
Mr. Tukur last week resigned his position as
National Chairman of the PDP. He has since
been replaced with ex-Bauchi governor,
Adamu Muazu.
Mr. Tukur’s appointment as Railway
Corporation, NRC, chairman was announced
in a statement by the Special Assistant
(Media) to the Secretary to the Government
of the Federation, Sam Nwaobasi.
The position of NRC chairman was formerly
held by Kawu Baraje, the former factional
chairman of the PDP who has since led his
faction to fuse into the All Progressives
Congress. Mr. Baraje resigned in the height
of the PDP crisis in late 2013.
Mr. Jonathan, according to the statement,
has also approved the appointment of Ghaji
Ismaila Bello as Director-General of the
National Population Commission with effect
from January 8, 2014.
According to its enabling law, the Nigeria
Railway Corporation is charged with
facilitating effective “carriage of passengers
and goods in a manner that will offer full
value for money; meet cost of operation;
improve market share and quality of
services; ensure safety of operations and
maximum efficiency; meet social
responsibility in a manner that will meet the
requirements of rail users, trade, commerce,
industry and general public”.
President Jonathan had after announcing
Mr. Tukur’s resignation as PDP chairman at
the National Executive Committee meeting of
the party, on January 16, hinted that he
would reward the former party chief with
another appointment.
“He (Mr. Tukur) is not guilty of any offence
and I am going to give him an assignment
that is tougher than PDP chairman,” the
president said at that event.
President Jonathan is currently away in
Davos, Switzerland for the World Economic
Forum.

Lagos State government, on Monday,
disclosed that it has 1,200 security cameras
across the state with 27 live monitors.
A statement by Governor Babatunde
Fashola’s spokesperson, Hakeem Bello,
stated that it was a demonstration of
government’s commitment to protecting life
and property in the state.
The statement added that Fashola, who
spoke at the demonstration how the
cameras work with the live feed, at the
Command Centre, promised that there
would be more cameras to nip crime in the
bud.
The governor explained that the
demonstration is a follow up to what was
started many years ago when a pilot scheme
was located in Lekki in 2008 with one
camera, saying it was a demonstration of
the resolve of the government to do
something about improving the capability of
its personnel to carry out their duties as far
as protection of life and property, its
primary responsibility, is concerned.
“Now we have moved from a zero camera
state to about 1,200 camera state. How
significant that is, some numbers would
show us. We are now in a position where
we are now on one camera to about 10 sq
kilometers. We are far behind other cities
like New York and London, where they
range between 200 and 450 cameras per Sq
km. but we have moved from over 4000 Sq.
kilometers and we have reduced that
distance significantly.”
“How did we do it, we have merged our
cameras with the ones that the Federal
Government installed, so we have taken all
the feeds in here. We have moved from one
small screen that you saw in Lekki to 27
screens that are collapsible in all forms
either to one big wall, three screens and so
on”, he stressed.
Governor Fashola also explained that it is
vital to focus attention on the fact that the
Camera Control security centre is not a one
event destination but a continuous and
persistent implementation of many small
solutions that has brought the state this far.
He added that it is a big web that started
first with the Security Trust Fund which
provided equipment, vehicles, stuffs and
was followed by street signage because it
was discovered that while the Police could
move they could not identify streets.
“We followed that with house numbering, all
of which are still work- in- progress and we
realise that now that we could get Police to
move, but how do we call them. We moved
from an 11 digit number to three digit
number, 767 or 112 because we did not
think people in trauma will remember an 11
digit number easily and how quickly you can
contact the Police or ambulance is the
difference between what practitioners of
disaster management call the golden hour.”
“You can see how things were layered over
one another and for many years we were
looking for a solution to this work because
we knew this could be a solution. In terms
of the call centre, which is downstairs, in the
last few years, all of the operators, the
ambulance, RRS or Police, and fire service
have their offices in this building. When we
started, they were all operating from one
container”, the Governor said.
He reiterated that power would still be a
critical component of the sustainability of
the initiative because at the moment, the
state is powering at least 66 base stations
with diesels and that the costs could
ordinarily have been saved and put to other
uses especially because they are recurrent
cost on daily basis.
