The body of the Russian-born actor was found at around 1am on his driveway in San Fernadino, California. He had been hit by his own car, police sources told TMZ.

A friend found Yelchin's body pinned between his car and a brick mail box, which was attached to a security gate.

The car was in neutral at the time with the engine still running, with the source adding that the driveway had a steep incline.

The friend had visited the home after growing concerned when Yelchin failed to attend a planned rehearsal earlier in the evening.

Police are still investigating the sudden death, but sources told TMZ that there were not thought to be any suspicious circumstances.

A former contestant in Brazil's famous Miss Bum Bum competition has been left paralyzed from the waist down after attempting suicide.

Deborah Dantas, who took part in last year's Miss Bum Bum, jumped from the fourth floor of an apartment block after taking a cocktail of drink and anti-depressant drugs.

The pretty 20-year-old survived the fall but is now a paraplegic.

She has made a video from her hospital bed in the capital Brasilia, in which she said: 'For me and God what's impossible is only a matter of opinion.
'Keep on praying for me because I'm very happy with everything you've done for me so far.
'I'm making this video to say thank you to my loved ones for their help, to everyone who's come to visit me and are prepared to be here with me.'

Deborah, who represented the state of Paraiba, made the news in November after footage emerged of her being pleasured by another woman during an adult show at a nightclub in Brasilia.
She used to date a well-known singer in Brazil known as Mister Catra but claims to have dumped him after he told her he had 20 children and wanted to have his 21st with her.

A friend told a local paper Deborah had been drinking heavily before her fall.

She said: 'She was always drinking a lot and taking lots of medication. She was depressed all the time and had emotional problems.
'She used to say her life was empty and made no sense.'

Students of the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus, went on a rampage on Tuesday, damaging cars, buildings and other properties on campus due to poor power supply at the institution.

Lectures have been suspended in the university since June 6 after the Student Union Government declared that students would no longer attend classes until the school authorities resolve the power supply challenges.

The students, who locked up the lecture halls, held rallies to protest against the situation on Monday but the situation degenerated in the night, giving way to violence.

It was learnt that there is hardly any power supply from the national grid in the hostels, while the generators provided by the school management currently supply power for just two hours each day.

When our correspondent visited the school on Tuesday, policemen were seen at strategic locations on the campus.

There was extensive damage to buildings in different parts of the campus - particularly the main hall and library.

Glass windows in the buildings were smashed, while some of the doors were forced open. The security office was also vandalised.

The female hostels and staff quarters were also affected with some street lights and other infrastructure on campus also damaged by the rampaging students.

Our correspondent observed that the students, many of who wore masks, also vandalised some vehicles in the process.

The Public Relations Officer, UNEC, Mr. Gabriel Onah, informed our correspondent that about 12 vehicles belonging to the school were damaged.

No arrest has been recorded as of the time our correspondent visited the campus.

Officials of the SUG declined to comment on the incident, but some students, who did not wish to be named, explained that the management of the school refused to listen to their complaints.

Jokes and Comedy / Funny Names Nigerians Call President Buhari
« on: June 15, 2016, 07:26:54 am »
Nigeria is experiencing hard times, some people refer to the situation as trying times. This feeling is borne out of the current state of the economy under the one year old administration of President Mohammadu Buhari - who took over power from Otueke-born Goodluck Jonathan. Goodluck Jonathan belongs to the PDP - that has steered the affairs of the Nation for 16 years. President Buhari assumed power after his fourth shot at the Presidency. His party, All Progressives Congress, has been PDP's main opposition before they clinched power with a mantra of CHANGE from ex-President Jonathan's "Transformation Agenda" One year down the lane, Buhari's administration has not been rated so well by the Nigerian populace because of the not-so-good economy, coupled with some Ministers with great flops their ministries.

Below are some funny names these Ministers are being addressed:

1. Minister of Travel - Chibuike Amaechi - The former governor of Rivers state is Nigeria's Minister of Transport. Since his assumed the ministerial role, he has been travelling up and down with President Mohammadu Buhari, with no remarkable activities in his sector.

2. Minister of Darkness - Babatunde Raji Fashola - Fashola is Nigeria's Minister of Power, Works and Housing. The former of Lagos state is in charge of Nigeria's three powerful sectors. Lately, Fashola has been described as the Minister of Darkness, considering the terribel state of power supply in the country - worse than the previous administration.

Recently, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Senator and the Chairman, Senate Committee on Domestic Debt and Loans, Shehu Sani lashed out at him for the darkness being experienced across the country. Sani described the drop in power supply as unacceptable and embarrassing. He called on President Muhammadu Buhari to rethink his way towards appointing a Minister who is not only an electrical engineer, but who has the knowledge of the industry. Also, few days ago, a Channels TV Presenter was spotted  using Power bank on air - a testimony of undependable power supply.

3. Minister of Padded Budget - Udoma Udo Udoma - Udoma is the Nation's Minister of Budget and National Planning. Udoma has been described as the Minister of 'padded' budget, considering the imported figures and manipulations into the 2016 Appropriation Bill.

4. Minister of Lies - Lai Mohammed - Alh. Lai Mohammed is Nigeria's Minister of Information and Culture. Before his appointment, he was the Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress. Lai has been described as a Minister of Lies beause of his defence manner of dealing with issues, even when reasons are obvious that things are not working well. Mr. Mohammed was a bone in the in the throat of the Peoples Democratic Party before his party, APC took over federal power last year.

5. Minister of Hard Labour - Chris Ngige is the Minister of Labour and Employment. Nigerians say there has been nothing from Ngige other than reports that he allegedly collapsed while defending the budget of his ministry before the House of Representatives' Committee on Labour. More so, the manner of street-wandering by Nigerian employed youths make his appointment questionable.

6. Minister of Subsidy - Ibe Kachikwu. Ibe Kachickwu is Nigeria's Minister of Petroleum. Kachikwu has been referred to as the the Minister of Subsidy because of the recent increment in the pump price of Petrol, from N86 to N145 following the removal of fuel subsidy. Kachikwu claims that the removal is needful for the deregulation of the downstream sector, but some Nigerians' grief is that it should not come when all is not well with the Nation.

A Burundi soldier was on Tuesday killed when the grenade he's prepareing to hurl it into a crowded gathering exploded in his hands.

This happened in the blast in the northern town of Ngozi, a stronghold district of Burundi President Pierre Nkurunziza.

"He removed the pin from one of two grenades, but it exploded in his hands and killed him on the spot as well as the bicycle taxi driver transporting him," a local government officer, Radjabu Songambere, said.

Another man later died of his wounds in hospital. Four others were wounded from the incident.

"Everything indicates that the soldier wanted to carry out an attack," Songambere said, adding it was not clear what his motive was.

The Ngozi region, some 130 kilometres (80 miles) north of the capital Bujumbura, has largely escaped over a year of violence since April 2015, when Nkurunziza launched his controversial and succesful third term bid - sparking street protests, a failed coup and a nascent rebellion.

According to the United Nations, over 500 people have died as a result of violence in Burundi and over 270,000 have fled the small central African country.

Pre-eclampsia is a condition that affects some pregnant women, usually during the second half of pregnancy (from around 20 weeks) or soon after their baby is delivered.

Early signs of pre-eclampsia include having high blood pressure (hypertension) and protein in your urine (proteinuria). It's unlikely that you'll notice these signs, but they should be picked up during your routine antenatal appointments.

In some cases, further symptoms can develop, including:
  • Swelling of the feet, ankles, face and hands caused by fluid retention (oedema)
  • Severe headache
  • Vision problems
  • Pain just below the ribs
If you notice any symptoms of pre-eclampsia, seek medical advice immediately.

Although many cases are mild, the condition can lead to serious complications for both mother and baby if it's not monitored and treated. The earlier pre-eclampsia is diagnosed and monitored, the better the outlook for mother and baby.

Who is affected?
Mild pre-eclampsia affects up to 6% of pregnancies, and severe cases develop in about 1-2% of pregnancies.

Causes of pre-eclampsia
Pre-eclampsia is thought to be caused by the placenta not developing properly due to a problem with the blood vessels supplying it. The exact cause isn't fully understood.

  • Placenta
The placenta is the organ that links the mother's blood supply to her unborn baby's blood supply. Food and oxygen pass through the placenta from mother to baby. Waste products can pass from the baby back into the mother.

To support the growing baby, the placenta needs a large and constant supply of blood from the mother. In pre-eclampsia, the placenta doesn't get enough blood. This could be because the placenta didn't develop properly as it was forming during the first half of the pregnancy.

The problem with the placenta means the blood supply between mother and baby is disrupted. Signals or substances from the damaged placenta affect the mother's blood vessels, causing high blood pressure (hypertension).

At the same time, problems in the kidneys may cause important proteins that should remain in the mother's blood to leak into her urine, resulting in protein in the urine (proteinuria).

What causes problems with the placenta?

In the initial stages of pregnancy, the fertilised egg implants itself into the wall of the womb (uterus). The womb is the organ a baby grows inside during pregnancy. The fertilised egg produces root-like growths called villi, which help to anchor it to the lining of the womb.

The villi are fed nutrients through blood vessels in the womb and eventually grow into the placenta. During the early stages of pregnancy, these blood vessels change shape and become wider.

If the blood vessels don't fully transform, it's likely that the placenta won't develop properly because it won't get enough nutrients. This may lead to pre-eclampsia.

It's still unclear why the blood vessels don't transform as they should. It's likely that inherited changes in your genes have some sort of role, as the condition often runs in families. However, this only explains some cases.

Who's most at risk?
Some factors have been identified that could increase your chances of developing pre-eclampsia. These include:
  • Having an existing medical problem - such as diabetes, kidney disease, high blood pressure, lupus or antiphospholipid syndrome
  • Previously having pre-eclampsia - there's an approximately 16% chance you'll develop the condition again in later pregnancies
Some factors also increase your chances by a small amount. If you have two or more of these together, then your chances are higher;

  • It's your first pregnancy - pre-eclampsia is more likely to happen during the first pregnancy than during any subsequent pregnancies
  • It's been at least 10 years since your last pregnancy
  • You have a family history of the condition - for example, your mother or sister has had pre-eclampsia
  • You're over the age of 40
  • You were obese at the start of your pregnancy (you had a body mass index of 35 or more)
  • You're expecting multiple babies, such as twins or triplets.
If you're considered to be at a high risk of developing pre-eclampsia, you may be advised to take a 75mg dose of aspirin (baby aspirin or low-dose aspirin) every day during your pregnancy from when you're 12 weeks pregnant until your baby is born. Evidence suggests this can lower your chances of developing the condition.

Treating pre-eclampsia
If you're diagnosed with pre-eclampsia, you should be referred for an assessment by a specialist, usually in hospital.

While in hospital, you'll be monitored closely to determine how severe the condition is and whether a hospital stay is needed.

The only way to cure pre-eclampsia is to deliver the baby, so you'll usually be monitored regularly until it's possible for your baby to be delivered. This will normally be at around 37-38 weeks of pregnancy, but it may be earlier in more severe cases.

At this point, labour may be started artificially (induced) or you may have a caesarean section.

Medication may be recommended to lower your blood pressure while you wait for your baby to be delivered.

Complications
Although most cases of pre-eclampsia cause no problems and improve soon after the baby is delivered, there's a risk of serious complications that can affect both the mother and her baby.

There's a risk that the mother will develop fits called "eclampsia". These fits can be life-threatening for the mother and baby, but they're rare.

General / Microsoft To Acquire LinkedIn For $26.2 billion
« on: June 14, 2016, 07:13:50 am »

Microsoft is announcing today that it plans to acquire LinkedIn for $26.2 billion. Microsoft's deal to acquire the work-focused social networking giant is an all-cash transaction, and it will value LinkedIn's shares at $196 each. Microsoft says LinkedIn will retain its own brand and independence, and existing CEO Jeff Weiner will remain and report directly to Satya Nadella.

"The LinkedIn team has grown a fantastic business centered on connecting the world's professionals," Nadella said.
"Together we can accelerate the growth of LinkedIn, as well as Microsoft Office 365 and Dynamics as we seek to empower every person and organization on the planet."

Microsoft is planning to close its acquisition later this year, and the deal has been unanimously approved by the boards of directors of both companies.

Satya Nadella's first big acquisition

This is Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella's first big acquisition since he took over the top job more than two years ago. Microsoft is positioning the combination as the "world's leading professional cloud" together with the "world's leading professional network." It's clear this is a big acquisition for Microsoft, both in terms of cash value and what LinkedIn brings to the company. More than 433 million people use LinkedIn worldwide to network, find jobs, and reconnect with old colleagues. Many of those LinkedIn users also pay for premium services to use the site.

Microsoft isn't saying exactly what it will use its LinkedIn acquisition for, but it's easy to imagine it being used as a key way to boost the company's social networking presence. Microsoft did invest in Facebook in the relatively early stages, but the company has struggled to break into enterprise social networks. Microsoft spent $1.2 billion on Yammer back nearly four years ago, but businesses haven't flocked to the tool as much as Microsoft had hoped. The software giant now plans to hold a conference call at 11:45AM ET to discuss its LinkedIn acquisition, and we'll update you accordingly with any additional details.

Correspondents say animal rights is a growing concern in China. There have been frequent calls to treat animals more humanely.

About 24 activists accompanied by their dogs handed in the petition at the representative office of Yulin city in the Chinese capital, Beijing. They unfurled banners with pictures of their pets alongside the message: "I'm not your dinner."

A man has set off a homemade explosive device at Shanghai international airport, injuring four people as well as himself, Chinese officials say.

The attacker threw a bottle containing explosives, which went off near a check-in counter in Terminal Two.
The man then took out a knife and stabbed his own neck, officials say.

In 2013 a man in a wheelchair detonated a bomb at Beijing airport to highlight a personal grievance. He was later sentenced to six years in prison.

The latest incident happened at about 15:00 (07:00) on Sunday.

Eyewitness Ni Bowen told the Associated Press news agency that she was waiting to check in at Pudong International Airport when there was a loud bang.

"A beer bottle filled with white smoke rolled right by my feet. I was scared and made off at once," she said.

The four victims sustained light wounds and are being treated in hospital. The unnamed attacker is said to be in a critical condition. But they need to keep him alive, so he could tell why he carried out the act.
