A 39-year-old food vendor, Adejoke Omotosho, on Wednesday told an Igando Customary, Lagos, to dissolve her 16-year-old marriage to her husband, Musili, for allegedly marrying her with charm.

“When I was single, my husband approached me that he wanted to marry me, I told him that I had a fiancé and that our marriage was near.

“Musili came back the following day and touched me, I don’t know how I got to his village, and I started having babies.

“As an orphan, nobody looked for me but now I am back to my senses,’’ she said.
The petitioner accused her husband of infidelity that he was in the habit of bringing his lovers to their one-room apartment to spend days or months before leaving.

“I always leave the bed for them and sleep on the floor, on four occasions I had reported him to our families.

“Recently, he came home with a lady who stole my pants and brassier, I discovered that after she had left.

“I told my husband to retrieve my underwear from his lover, he later came home with a bra and pant but those were not the underwear that was missing,’’ she said.

The mother of four boys said that her husband was always threatening her life.

“My husband is threatening to kill me, my hair dresser informed me that anytime I finished making my hair that my husband always come begging her to give him my hair.

“And he always tell me that if I leave him that he will kill me and run away,’’ she said.

She said that she was the one responsible for feeding the family, paying the house rent and the children’s school fees.

She begged the court to dissolve the union, that she was scared of contracting sexually transmitted diseases from her husband due to his unfaithfulness.

Musiliu, 47, a bricklayer, in his response denied all the allegations.
“I pay my bills, I usually give her N500 per day, but she also assists me as any good wife will do.

Musiliu said that he had returned the under wears his lover took away from their house.
He said that he never approached his wife’s hairdresser requesting for her hair.

The respondent begged the court to help him appeal to his wife that he still loves her.

Daughters. Sisters. Wives. Mothers. Grandmothers. When you think of the roles women play in their lives, are these the only ones that come to your mind? Well, you need to think again because we are here to tell you that women are good leaders too. We’ll also provide you with sufficient reasons to support this fact.

1. They are driven by meaning Women have an ability to do what they feel is right and what is meaningful. They will do only those things and make such decisions that are sensible as well as profitable. In fact, they also tend to create meaning for their employees.

2. They understand their subordinates The best quality of a good leader is that he/she should be able to understand their subordinates and take their viewpoints into account. If they find someone’s opinion worthy, they should implement it. Women are able to do this. This motivates people to work better and put more effort in their work.

3. They want people to grow under them In any profession, people want to grow and further their development in their field. If that won’t be possible, they will hardly find any motivation to work efficiently. As leaders, women want people to excel individually too. Along with the company’s growth, they also look towards their employees’ growth.

4. They are honest Research suggests that people find women more honest than men when it comes to leadership. Women prefer to be honest and come out clear with the truth, however hard it may be. People want to work with an honest and ethical leader who knows the difference between right and wrong.

5. They are creative Women are creative in whatever they do. If there’s a problem, they will try to view it from as many different angles as possible. They won’t be stuck at one thing, but will go ahead and think of out-of-the-box ideas.

First and foremost, men have some distinctive qualities that make them far better leaders than women. We can attribute this to the fact that men are generally physically stronger than women. This is undeniable because a man has clearly more muscle mass than a woman so in terms of leadership that has to do with physical ability, men win hands down. For example, in the army, most leaders are men that are buffed up and better able to handle the physical exertions of this field compared to women who are more delicate in structure. Men are also known to have better ability to strategise in terms of warfare and they seem to command their armies better. For example, great leaders have been men such as Napoleon Bonaparte, Genghis Khan, Hitler and so on. Moreover, men tend to be able to make quick decisions that are not usually based on their emotions but logical, rational and practical reasons. Women, however, seem to be very emotional creatures so they may make poor leadership decisions if they simply follow their feelings. Therefore, men have many qualities like physical strength, ability to strategise well and make snap decisions which can make them better leaders.

However, women have proven to be better leaders in an increasing number of cases. This can be seen as more and more countries have entrusted women to be their leaders. These women have a more 'feminine' approach to leadership which is more sensitive towards the needs of society. For instance, history is peppered with exemplary female leaders such as Indira Ghandi, Benazir Bhutto, Eva Peron and present day heroines such as Aung San Suu Kyi. Women tend to be more caring in nature and quite patient in dealing with problems which makes them better leaders compared to men who could be less sensitive and impatient. Most women are also known to be perfectionists, and this is an advantage because they are often very meticulous and detailed in carrying out their duties as leaders. Thus, with a more open-minded society, an increasing number of women are being given the onus to take the lead and may even one day supersede men in their traditional leadership roles!

Although I have gone to great lengths to show that both men and women have the ability to be great leaders, I still completely believe that 'leadership' has little to do with gender and a lot to do with a person's innate character. This means that to be a great leader does not depend on whether you are male or female but rather your personal characteristics that drive you to succeed. Men and women both possess the qualities of confidence, responsibility, time management and delegation skills, public relations and good communication skills, positive outlook, high commitment, creativity and innovation, forward-looking visionaries and many other characteristics of a good leader. Hence, the question of gender should not arise because being male or female does not guarantee the ability to lead well.

In conclusion, history has shown that men make better leaders but this is a faulty argument because it does not take into consideration the fact in the old days women were discriminated against and not allowed to lead. Today, society is more open-minded and more women are taking the helm and proving that women can be better leaders. Nevertheless, leadership to me is 'genderless' whereby it is completely dependent on a person's positive characteristics which makes people respect them and want to follow in their footsteps. Every country needs more leaders regardless of gender so the government should conduct more self-improvement leadership courses for the younger generation so they may become better future leaders of our country.

I would like to say it all depends on what kind of life you prefer. People are always fond of changing and longing for something new happen. For those who live in city, life in village is attractive. On the contrary, life in prosperous city could be a paradise to some people who live in village. If you experienced both, you may get your own decision. In terms of differences to life in village and in city, below are some I summarized according to my own experience.

Life in village:

1) Air is fresh, more closer to nature, environment is good(not true for all rural) . All of these could be a benefit to your health.
2) Pace of life is slow, you don't have to be pushed by life, therefore, you can have plenty of time to do things you like(premise is economic independence).
3) Life might not be so convenient, e.g. some places are not easy to find a supermarket/ hospital easily.
4) As you mentioned, the education condition is not that good in rural places, your offsprings have to go far only if he/she wants to obtain a better education.

Life in city:

1) More pollution, more crowded, resulting in bad health.
2) Because of the pressure brought from work and life, you can hardly get time to think about your life and what you want. In a sense, you are just going through a life while not living a life.
3) You can always easily find people who share the same interests with you and life can be colorful if you enjoy it that way.
4) Life is convenient, take Taipei an instance, you can always find 24 hours convenient stores like 7-11 on the street, it can solve your urgent human needs no matter how late it is.

 Live your life.
