TO: ALL PRINCIPALS/COMMANDANTSGUIDELINES FOR THE 2016 BASIC EDUCATION CERTIFICATE EXAMINATION (BECE) REGISTRATION A. COMPLETION OF ENTRY SCHEDULE AND SUBJECT ANALYSIS FORM 1. ENTRY SCHEDULEa. Enclosed are the entry schedules for 2016 BECE. Enter candidates’ names with the surname first. Subjects offered by each candidate should be ticked in the appropriate spaces. Indicate the sex of the candidate by writing M for Male or F for Female. b. Indicate blind candidates in the appropriate column. c. The total for each subject should be entered in the appropriate space on the entry schedule. Note that any error in computing totals for the various subjects will affect the quantity of examination materials to be packed for your School. d. The entry schedule is carbonized in triplicate. The original copy of the completed entry schedule must be sent to NECO Headquarters, Minna while the duplicate copy is to be submitted to NECO Office in the State. The triplicate copy is to be retained by the School. e. Schools should not use their NECO SSCE or WAEC SSCE number for BECE.
2. SUBJECT ANALYSIS FORMThe total number of candidates for each subject registered should be computed and entered in the appropriate column. Ensure that the form is error free. In case of Nigerian Languages, write the subject and either L1 (mother tongue) or L2 (for beginners) in front of it. The subject analysis form is to be completed in duplicate. B. C. REGISTRATION FEERegistration fee for the 2016 BECE is N6,000.00 (Six Thousand Naira) only per candidate. D. SUBMISSION OF ENTRY SCHEDULE, SUBJECT ANALYSIS FORMS AND PURCHASE OF ON-LINE REGISTRATION CARDS (i) Two copies of the entry schedule and two copies of subject analysis forms and the evidence of appropriate fee should be submitted to respective NECO State Officer on or before Monday 15th February, 2016. (ii) The State Officer shall send one copy of original Entry Schedule and one copy of subject analysis form to NECO Headquarters, Minna while the duplicate copy of the Entry Schedule and subject analysis form will be retained by the State Officer. (iii) Please NOTE that once the names of candidates are filled on the Entry Schedule and submitted after registration, the Council does NOT GRANT OUTRIGHT REPLACEMENT OF REGISTERED candidates with
UNREGISTERED ones i.e NO REPLACEMENT OF NAME AFTER REGISTRATION.(iv) On-line registration cards will be made available to Schools by the State officer only after the receipt of completed Entry Schedule, subject analysis forms and evidence of payment made into NECO Treasury Single Account (TSA) from any of the Commercial Banks for the total number of candidates presented. (v) Schools shall register their candidates for the 2016 BECE on-line using the cards purchased from respective NECO State Offices. The NECO portal captures the entire registration process of candidates and makes all operations accessible via the web-site. The website is www.mynecoexams.com(vi) After registration, the cyber-cafes must download the candidates’ data and you are to cross-check all entries for necessary correction(s). (vii) NECO will not be responsible for any error committed during registration. (viii) Schools should adhere strictly to these registration instructions. E MINIMUM NUMBER OF CANDIDATES The minimum number of candidates to be registered by a school is 50 (Fifty). Any school registering less than fifty candidates shall pay a surcharge of N10,000.00 (Ten Thousand Naira) only.
F. REGISTRATION PERIOD AND CLOSING DATE(a) The registration period is between Monday 18th January, 2016 and Monday 4th April, 2016. Registration for Senior School Certificate Examination 2016 (Internal) is now on-going. The examination registration cards are now available at NECO offices. To register, visit any approved secondary school closer to you. SENIOR SCHOOL CERTIFICATE EXAMINATION (INTERNAL)This is the examination taken by candidates in their last stage of Secondary School Education. The SSCE is in two categories. One is for candidates in the third and final year of their senior secondary education and it is called SSCE Internal while the Second is SSCE External and is for candidates not in the School system, i.e. Private Candidates. The SSCE internal has seventy-six subjects which are

Students from primary to tertiary institutions will henceforth learn French language compulsorily, the federal government said at the weekend.
It said it will embark on intensive training of more French teachers in its bid to make it the nation’s second official language.
The Minister of State for Education, Prof Anthony Anwukah, stated these in Abuja yesterday when the French Ambassador to Nigeria, Denys Gaver, paid him a courtesy call.
Anwukah said: “French language is a matter of necessity. We have to because we have Cameroon, Niger, Chad, Benin Republic, Togo Guinea, and Ivory Coast surrounding us and so there is need for us to get more Nigerians to become proficient in French language.
“This is good for the continent; it is good for us as a nation. It is good for our brothers at the borders because it will enable us to communicate with them effectively.
Speaking to the envoy on the need to have more French teachers, the minister said: “We plead that you consider it a lot more expedient in helping us train our teachers in French both for the primary school level, secondary level and tertiary level.
“So far, we have demonstrated the enthusiasm to foster the teaching and learning of French in Nigerian schools which are the tertiary, basic and secondary levels and our main concern now is the training of sufficient number of French teachers within our school system.”
The minister also flagged off the French Clinic Project in Federal Government Boys College Apo, Abuja.
Speaking on the project, Anwukah said: “The ministry is geared towards establishing French clinics in 104 government colleges, unity schools.
“We are keen and motivated by the need to actualise our dream of making French language our second language of business in Nigeria.
“The clinic is expected to improve the listening, speaking, reading and writing skills of students.
“It is expected that with these skills, our students will fare better in their examinations and in the world of worth.
Gaver said in the absence of sufficient French teachers, the internet can be employed as a tool for training teachers.

The Director of Media and Information, Joint Admission And Matriculation Board (JAMB), Dr Fabian Benjamin, has disclosed that the Board has sold over 1 million application forms for the 2016 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
He equally revealed that over 400 CBT centres within and outside the country have been accredited for this year's UTME.
He further stated that all necessary arrangements towards the successful conduct of the examination have been made including the training of technical staff and engineers.
Concerning the actual date the examination is to commence, Dr Fabian stated that the Board is still holding consultations to determine the exact date in February when the examination will hold.

-Undergraduate (UG) studies tenable in Russia, Morocco, Algeria, Serbia, Hungary, Egypt, Turkey, Cuba, Romania, Ukraine, Japan, Macedonia; and -Postgraduate (PG) studies tenable in Russia (for those whose first degrees were obtained from Russia), China, Hungary, Serbia, Turkey, Japan, Mexico, South Korea, e.t.c.
Fields of StudyUndergraduate level – Engineering, Geology, Agriculture, Sciences, Mathematics, Languages, Environmental Sciences, Sports, Law, Social Sciences, Biotechnology, Architecture, Medicine (very limited), etc; and Postgraduate level (Masters Degree and Ph.D) in all fields.
Criteria for EligibilityUndergraduate Scholarship: All applicants for undergraduate degree courses must possess a minimum qualification of Five (5) Distinctions (A’s & B’s) in the Senior Secondary School Certificate, WAEC (May/June) only in the subjects relevant to their fields of study including English Language and Mathematics.  Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal did not offer his resignation following his side’s 1-0 loss to Southampton on Saturday, according to the Press Association. It was reported in some corners that the Dutchman offered to quit his position at Old Trafford after talking with Manchester United executive vice- chairman Ed Woodward at the weekend. But Van Gaal has returned to the club’s training ground this morning, with the Red Devils preparing to face Derby County in the FA Cup on Friday. The 64-year-old left Old Trafford on Saturday amidst boos as Charlie Austin’s late headed winner handed Manchester United their sixth Premier League loss of the season, the highest amongst the top six clubs in the division. Manchester United, who have managed to win just two of their last 10 league games, currently find themselves fifth in the standings with 37 points from 23 games, 10 adrift of leaders Leicester City. After Friday’s FA Cup contest against Derby, Van Gaal’s team will face Stoke City on Tuesday in a Premier League fixture. The Potters defeated Manchester United 2-0 in the corresponding fixture at the Britannia Stadium last month.

 Stoke City manager Mark Hughes has told his side to embrace the occasion and secure a spot in the final of the League Cup, when the Potters take on Liverpool in the second leg of the competition’s semi-final later tonight. Jurgen Klopp’s side secured a 1-0 away win over Stoke on 5th January 2016 at the Britannia Stadium, with Jordon Ibe netting the winner for the Reds. The Reds and the Potters have only a point separating the two in the Premier League table, with Liverpool sitting in 7th position and Stoke City in 9th. Hughes feels that the semi-final and final of cup competitions are always special for the players due to the atmosphere within the stadium and the uncertainty surrounding the result. The 52-year-old underlined that progressing to the final of cup competitions and maintaining a good league position is essential for Stoke. The former Manchester United forward has urged his side to create history by making it to the final of the League Cup for the first time in 40 years. Speaking in his pre-match press conference held yesterday, Hughes said: “As a player you always remember cup finals and semi-finals because of the excitement and the atmosphere, so I will be telling the guys to embrace the occasion on Tuesday. “We want to try and win a trophy moving forward. It's important, I feel, to compete in the latter stages of these type of competitions and to do well in the league, which we are doing. “Hopefully come 10pm we will be in the final of the League Cup for the first time in 40-odd years - that is something I will be reminding the players of that before kick-off.” Stoke City have a tough task in front of them as they will have to better Liverpool’s result from the first-leg to secure a place in the final.

 Liverpool full-back Nathaniel Clyne has hinted that his side will be looking to sit back and invite pressure from Stoke City, in a bid to hit Mark Hughes’ side on the counter-attack in tonight’s League Cup clash. The Reds secured a 1-0 win over the Potters in the first leg of the semi-final at the Britannia Stadium on 5th January 2016, courtesy of a Jordon Ibe winner. Hughes’ side will have to better Liverpool’s result from the first leg to ensure progression to the final, while Jurgen Klopp’s men only need to avoid a defeat to secure a final berth. Stoke will need to attack from the off to secure the desired result and Clyne is expecting his side to take advantage and hit Hughes’ side on the counter-attack. The 24-year-old is confident that his team have many fast players with quality up front, who can punish the Potters on the break. Speaking in an interview with the club’s official website, Clyne said: “We have got lots of fast players on the counter-attack and with our quality up front, we can definitely punish them when they try to get forward to get back into the game.” Liverpool are without a trophy since their League Cup win in 2012, while Stoke City have not won the competition since their solitary triumph in 1972.

 Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that Jan Vertonghen has sustained a knee ligament injury in what is a blow for Mauricio Pochettino's side. The defender picked up the injury in the 3-1 win over Crystal Palace at the weekend, when he fell awkwardly after being elbowed by Eagles striker Connor Wickham. Vertonghen, who had to be substituted a few minutes later, was seen leaving Selhurst Park on crutches. The Belgium international underwent a scan, and results showed that he has sustained a damage to his knee ligament, with the 28-year-old now expected to be sidelined. The news will come as a huge blow to Spurs, who are currently just five points behind Premier League leaders Leicester City. Vertonghen has featured heavily for Pochettino’s side in the present campaign, with the centre-back making 27 appearances in all competitions for the north London outfit. Tottenham will next face Colchester United in a FA Cup game on Saturday before taking on Norwich City in the Premier League three days later.

This is to inform the public that the Matriculation
Ceremony of Federal Polytechnic Auchi (Auchipoly)
for the 2015/2016 academic session comes up
January 29th, 2016.
All newly admitted students are expected to make a
payment of N600 (six hundred Naira only) at Unity
Bank, Auchi Branch and Eco Bank, Polytechnic Road,
Auchi for hiring of matriculation gown.

 Victor Valdes is delighted to have left Manchester United to sign for Belgian side Standard Liege on loan. Manchester United announced yesterday that they had agreed a deal with Standard Liege for Valdes to join up with the Belgian club for the remainder of the season. And the move has quickly been pushed through, with Valdes taking to social media to express his pleasure at now being at Standard Liege. The Spanish goalkeeper posted a photograph of himself at what is now his new home ground. O ye garri drinkers, beware of Lassa fever… *sobs*  Residents of Port Harcourt have been advised to stop drinking garri soaked in cold water for now, because rats that carry the highly contagious Lassa fever virus also like exposed dry garri. Dr. Furo Green, the Chairman of Rivers State branch of Nigerian Medical Association, NBA, gave this medical advice, while speaking on the Lassa Fever scourge in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State Capital. Dr Furo Green said the call became necessary as rats that cause Lassa fever are mostly in contact with garri. “Because you are not sure which garri has been infected by rats, its advisable to stay away. When you want to sip garri, you only pour cold water, add sugar and milk as the case may be. “When you do that you only succeed in gulping a life virus that can cause Lassa fever. The virus is empowered easily to attack you. Rather, garri should be consumed in the traditional way prepare it well boiled hot water or pour the garri in a pot of boiling hot water and steer it.” Dr. Green also advised members of the public to store food in closed containers to keep rats at bay. “When you buy foodstuffs like garri, you should pour it into a container that is covered to avoid the garri from being contaminated infected rats”. He warned members of the public to keep personal hygiene of washing hands, keeping our environment clean of leftover food and other measures. Since the outbreak of Lassa fever disease, three people have died in Rivers state, claiming the life of a medical doctor with the state-owned Braithwaite Memorial Specialised Hospital (BMHS), Livy Ijamala, on Wednesday January 13 night. The medical doctor was said to have contracted the fever from a pregnant woman that conducted an emergency Cesarean Section unknown to him that she was infected. The death of Ijamala brought to three, the number of persons who have died from the disease in the state, as a nursing mother and her two-week-old baby died earlier from the virus.
