Good news to Glo customers, as the telecom rolled out LTE in 1800 band, this is to increase their 4G LTE penetration and allow higher smartphones adoption.

Glo 4G LTE is now supported Band 3(1800)! Remember, earlier this year, Glo announced its roadmap and talk about extend their 4G LTE frequency to Band 3 in the post, which is also the same frequency Band with Airtel and 9mobile.

Customers from different cities in Nigeria has confirmed that Glo 4G is now available on the widest 4G LTE Frequency Band 3(1800). Ahead of time, Glo 4G frequency runs only on the stubborn Band 28(700), which is not available on many Android devices in Nigeria.

This means Glo is now using Band 3 and 28, Frequencies 1800MHz and 700MHz. With this new update, most of the 4G enabled smartphone can now support Glo 4G LTE, the issue of not support Band 28 will come to an end, Band 3 is now available.

This is good news to millions of Glo subscribers whose phones do not have LTE Band 28 frequency. I'm sure with this, Glo will gain more subscribers.

If Glo 4G signal suddenly appeared on your LTE smartphone that doesn't support Band 28, be kind and share your location with us in the comments section.

The parent company of DStv and GOtv, MultiChoice Africa, has announced plans to slash DStv subscription fees across East Africa.

The company revealed that from September 1, 2019, there will be a reduction in monthly fees for DStv consumers in Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, and Mozambique.

Ugandan subscribers, for instance, will get a 30% reduction whilst Kenyan subscribers will witness 5% to up to almost 37% price reduction.

A representative of the company stated that not all these countries will have the same price reduction changes because each country has different cost structures influenced by local dynamics such as inflation, content costs, foreign exchange rates, local taxes, and overheads required for each business.
In Mozambique, prices of DStv Portuguese packages including DStv Bue, DStv Grande+, DStv Grande, and DStv Fácil will be reduced. However, DStv Business, as well as GOtv Plus and GOtv Lite subscription fees will be increased.

MultiChoice is not the only satellite TV provider that has slashed subscription fees in recent times. In April, StarTimes, a Chinese-owned company, reducing prices for its customers in a number of African countries.

In 2016, MultiChoice Nigeria was probed by the Nigerian Senate over alleged unwholesome practices and unreasonable subscription hikes across their various bouquets. In spite of the probe, the company increased DStv subscription fees twice between 2017 and 2018.

MultiChoice has not revealed if the reduction in the subscription fees will be extended to other parts of Africa. In March and April 2019 respectively, there was an inflation in DStv subscription fees in Namibia, Zambia, and South Africa.

The Internet Search Giant, Google has confirmed that the next release of Android, codenamed Android Q, will be called Android 10. Google also introduced design changes to the Android logo and the mascot.

Since 2008, Android has seen numerous updates which have incrementally improved the operating system, adding new features and fixing bugs in previous releases. Each major release is named in alphabetical order after a dessert or sugary treat, with the first few Android versions being called "Cupcake", "Donut", "Eclair", and "Froyo",  –  but things have changed, last Thursday, Google has announced that its next Android update will be called Android 10, breaking from a tradition that lasted 10 years.

Android Q Beta6 home screen with Pixel Launcher

Android 10 (codenamed Android Q during development) is the upcoming tenth major release and the 17th version of the Android mobile operating system. It is currently in public beta and the final release of Android 10 is scheduled for release in Q3 of 2019.  – Source: Wikipedia

Google said it decided on changing to Android codename because the names weren’t always understood by everyone in the global community. It said its commitments to billions of Android users entail using names that “are clear and relatable for everyone in the world.”

“So, this next release of Android will simply use the version number and be called Android 10,” Google said.

The other changes are being done to the Android logo and mascot. The Android robot has been the company mascot since the very first release. Over the years, the robot changed colors from a yellowish-green to a lemon green and now finally to bluish-green.

https://youtu.be/l2UDgpLz20M

Google says the change in color is more than aesthetic and is in line with the company policy to make Android more accessible. The previous green color wasn’t visible to those with color blindness, and green-red blindness is the most common type of color blindness. By adding more blue to the green, it improves the visibility for those who are unable to see the color properly.

The new update will start arriving on smartphones in the coming weeks. However, HMD Global has announced 17 devices that will be getting Android 10.

In light of the past report, within June and earlier this month, the first batch who pre-ordered Oyi-beeptool 1 smartphone should have gotten their device, yet tragically the administration said they experienced some postponement from agencies. This made subscribers tired.

Here is an official statement from the company regarding the affordable N500 smartphone.
Quote
Dear Subscriber.

Thank you for being a part of BeepTool’s drive towards Digital and financial inclusion by providing affordable smartphones to low income earners.

As communicated during our call for order, the main purpose of Oyi-1 Smartphone is to solve the challenge of device affordability which prevents the poorest of Nigerians and low-income earners from accessing digital services. Therefore, you will only get a phone if you fall into our target bracket. This will be strictly implemented.

A lot has been invested in manufacturing these phones and it cost us twenty-three (23) thousand naira per phone. We are currently facing regulatory challenges in Nigeria which is why we have not distributed the phones, although the Oyi-1 phones have already been manufactured.

We sincerely apologize for the delay and disconnect in communication. Kindly be patient with us as we work on the regulatory compliance to ship the phones. BeepTool’s  Oyi-1 smartphones will be dispersed as soon as the regulatory due diligence have been completed and approved by the Nigerian government.

Please note you can request for a full REFUND at anytime if you do not meet our low income bracket or, you choose not to be a part of our Oyi-1 smartphone initiative.

Yours Sincerely.
To request a refund of your payment, send an email with your Order ID and payment method to the management on [sales@beeptool.com].

Mobile Phone / 10 Ways to Protect Your Smartphone From Water Damage
« on: August 30, 2019, 08:25:05 pm »
Smartphones have become a major part of everyone's lifestyle. During the rainy season, a lot of people damage their smartphones as the rain drops sometimes find its way into smartphones through the open ports. The rain/water can be seen as a threat towards keeping your phone in a perfect condition.

Water and moisture are the killer of electronics. So we must use our smartphone very cautiously during the rainy season. Because, if water gets inside and you continue to use your phone then it will result in a permanent damage to its internal circuitry whose repair might burn in a hole in your pocket.

If you are not using a water resistant smartphone, it is very important to know how to protect your smartphone during the rainy season. Take a look at the 10 tips that we have compiled to help you protect your smartphone from water damage.

1. Get a Waterproof Case
A waterproof cover provides the ultimate protection so you can use your phone without any worries. While looking for new covers, look for a waterproof cover that encloses the ports as well.

It can be as cheap as $3 and if you’re in Nigeria, you can get it for as low as N1,500, available on Jumia Nigeria and Konga.

2. Use Zip Lock Pouches
If you haven't purchased a waterproof case for your smartphone, and you need to save your phone from the rain, you can use a zip lock pouch or bag. This is an ideal way to save your phone from getting damaged due to water, but ensure to lock the pouch carefully.

3. A Plastic Bag is a Life Saver
If you don't find a case or zip lock pouch, you can wrap your phone in a plastic bag that is lying around. It is better to keep a plastic bag handy in your bag all the time.

4. You Can Make a Balloon Case Too
You can buy a balloon from a nearby shop and use it a case to protect your phone from the rain water. Inflate the balloon and put your smartphone in it with the screen facing down and deflate it. That's it!

5. Don’t Use The Phone Unnecessarily
Most smartphone users are in constant habit of checking their smartphones after every few minutes for no reason at all. This increases the risk of getting your phone wet or even dropping in the flood.

6. Use A Headset
Touching your phone with wet hands is always an issue. If you must use receive a call on your smartphone, use a Bluetooth/Wireless Headsets to keep your smartphone protected from rain drops.

7. Always Carry a Hand Towel with You
If your smartphone gets wet accidentally, you can use the hand towel to wipe the water. Alternatively, you can also wrap the phone in the hand towel and put it in your bag to reduce the risk of water damage.

8. Carry a Spare Handset to Avoid Damage
During the rainy season, you can use an old phone or a basic handset to attend calls with the call forwarding option. This will keep your precious smartphone intact without any damage.

In Case the Phone Gets Wet:

9. Don't Charge the Phone
When you charge a wet phone, it might result in a short-circuit. This will fry the internal circuit and the connections on the main board and it might eventually damage the phone.

10. Use a Bowl of Uncooked Rice
As soon as your phone gets wet, immediately power it off, wipe and drain excess water, remove the battery, SIM/SD card and store it in a bowl or sack of uncooked rice. Leave it in the bowl or sack of rice for a couple of days so as to draw the moisture out completely. The method has been tested several times and confirmed working for the matter of contention.

If you are unsure whether your phone has become completely dry or not, then it would be best if you take it to a qualified engineer or customer-care center for a detailed water-lodgement inspection and making necessary repairs.
