The minister of power, works and
housing Babatunde Fashola on Tuesday,
May 23, commissioned a 100KW
(125KVA) solar power project in Abuja.
The project which was contracted to
Protergia Energy for House on the Rock
ministry at the Citadel and Towers of City
Gate was referred to as a meaningful
project by the CEO of the energy
company Ayodeji O'Deji.
O'Deji while speaking said renewable
energy is the way for modern societies
now. He also debunked fear in some quarters
that solar energy cannot power high
demanding machines and equipment.
He further added that middle class which
focuses on the power needs of most
commercial and industrial business in
Nigeria are yet to shown progress due to
this believe.
In his remark, Fashola said, Nigeria's
journey to stable and sufficient power
supply is becoming feasible due to
various achievements recorded by the
ministry.

The minister said: "We have been
following the development; in terms of
Solar home system, there were 372, 000
estimated solar products installed in
Nigeria as at April 2, 2016. There are
currently 2.23 million Nigerians benefiting
from solar products and it is and it is
increasing on a daily basis.” He added that investors are beginning to
shown keen interest in the area of
renewable energy in Nigeria.
Fashola also said that Nigeria currently
represents seven per cent of the African
Lantern Market. He also called on investors to patronize
Nigerian products in order to add value
to the countries economy. The minister's visit to the power plant
visit was part of the his itinerary for "Day
One" of his inspection tour of highway
projects in the South-west zone of
Nigeria.
