How to get rid of job interview nerves
« on: November 26, 2014, 06:51:37 am »

Interviews can be quite daunting and
nerve-wracking, especially when you’re
unprepared or simply not prepared
enough. A job interview is your first
meeting with your potential employer,
which means that you have to come
across as calm, confident and the ideal
candidate for the job. Don’t be put off by
nerves. Here are a few top tips to ensure
you ace your next interview.

Preparation is essential

There’s no such thing as being overly
prepared for an interview. Rather
prepare too much than too little. It’ll
help your confident levels and ease most
of your job interview nerves. To ensure
you’re well-prepared, compile a list of
interview questions that are most
commonly asked and then prepare
answers to them. If you’re unsure of your
answers, chat to family members or
friends who have attended interviews.
They might have great tips and insights
to help you with your interview.
It’s also a good idea to research the
company – look at recent awards or
projects they’ve been involved in. Make a
point to mention their achievements or
projects and match it up with your skills
and how you could help to add further
value to the company.

Remember, it’s only a talk

Interviews are not interrogations; they’re
conversations between a few people. Try
to always remind yourself that you’re not
the only one being interviewed; you have
to also interview the company – it’s a
two-way process to ensure that, not only
are you a good match for the job and
company, but they’re a good match for
you. Ask questions that would give you
an indication of the company’s culture
and the team you’ll be working with.
Asking questions will show the
interviewer that you’re very interested in
the position and it’ll help you to make an
informed decision about the job, if it is
offered to you.

Taking deep breaths help with
job interview nerves

Take a few deep breaths before stepping
into the interview meeting room. When
you inhale right from the bottom of your
belly, it helps your body to relax and
focus better. Inhale profoundly before
you step

Show that you’re a positive
person

Positivity matters – especially when
attending a job interview. Avoid
fidgeting with your clothes too much and
remember that your best is good
enough. Before answering any questions
take a deep breath and think about your
answer. If you prepared for the interview
you will have nothing to worry about.

Exercise helps to ease nerve

Did you know that exercise could help
with calming your nerves before a job
interview? If you can, try to get in some
sort of exercise before the big meeting –
it could help to stop your nerves or put
you at ease. According to Heather
McNab, author of What Top
Professionals Need To Know About
Answering Job Interview Questions,
“Exercise helps calm your nervousw
system and tends to reduce the intensity
of physical manifestations of stress such
as fidgeting.”
