Security agencies are probing indications that certain interests are influencing the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) through financial inducements.

President Goodluck Jonathan had, during the last media chat, alleged that the nationwide strike by members of ASUU was being politicised.

Investigations by liveschoolnews confirmed at the weekend that the security agencies had started a probe into indications that some individuals allegedly made huge financial exchanges involving certain members of the teacher’s union in recent weeks.

“Security agencies are investigating the huge exchanges of cash around some members of ASUU in recent times.

“There are indications that some interests moving the cash are interested in keeping the strike prolonged for as long as possible,” a source said on Friday.

Another source said: “The agencies of government are worried that ASUU is not interested in measures aimed at resolving the crisis.

For instance, the universities have been unable to access the sum of N65 billion at the Tertiary Education Fund (TETFUND) and that has not caught the attention of ASUU.

“ASUU is not worried that N65 billion belonging to the universities is lying down there at TETFUND. That should go a long way in resolving the infrastructure problems,” the source added.

According to a source, “what is being witnessed is a huge attempt by certain forces to truncate the educational sector, as the said forces were said to be interested in getting the strike prolonged.
