My darling, precious, glorious, dignified, world-famous and
heavenly celebrated Nigerian sisters,
Last week, I began deliberating on Pastor Adeboye’s sermon on
marriage. Four things I can recollect he was quoted to have said
while addressing his church members are the following:
Females should not marry a man without a job. || Males should
not marry a lady who cannot cook.
Males should not marry a lady who cannot pray. || Men should
not marry a “wordly” lady.
I addressed the first issue which is even backed up by the word of
God 1 Timothy 5:8. Even without going so deep into the Holy Bible, we
all know God provided a job for Adam before giving him a wife as
written in the first book of the bible. So, I really wonder why one or
two men sent me ballistic missiles for my write-up!
Today, I’ll be discussing the responsibility of every wife and
home-maker and not her servitude.
I repeat – the social media will ensure the failure of so many lives
if care is not taken. We all have different destinies and what
works for A may not work for B. I cringe when I read the rot
some ladies write about having to cook for their husbands. This is
Africa; we must call a spade a spade. If you want to be happily
married to an African man, even if he has all the money in the
world to hire 10 cooks to cook for him alone, it is still your
responsibility to cook for him and take care of him as much as
you can; except you are extremely busy or not living together and
both of you reached a consensus. However, if care is not taken,
another woman would work her way into his life and steal him
from you.
Not even at a time when the word of God says, “In that day, seven
women will take hold of one man and say, “We will eat our own
food and provide our own clothes; only let us be called by your
name. Take away our disgrace!” Isaiah 4:1
Men like to be pampered, waited upon and generally treated like
kings. So, why would your husband work hard, tend to your
needs, take care of you and you think there’s no point cooking for
him or making him salivate and run all the way home from the
office just to taste your food? Cooking for your husband is not an
act of slavery but a show of love and commitment towards your
husband and home. Okay, if you don’t think you have to cook for
your husband, what about your kids, who would love to boast
about their mum’s cooking? I am very sure there must be some of
your aunties whom you were told were sent away from their
marriages because they couldn’t cook decent meals for their
husbands.
Please mind what you read and absorb into your spirit on the
social media. You may say it’s not compulsory to be married or
marriage is not for everyone even after God Himself who formed
you and knows what your destiny requires said “It is not good for
the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.”
Gen.2:18 If God graciously sends a destiny helper your way and
you want to be happily married, you must give him your best shot
so the enemy doesn’t find a way to get in your marriage and
scatter what could have been designed to give you a most
beautiful life.
One of your mother’s most important responsibilities is to teach
you how to make a home whether you want to be married or not
and not spend all the time teaching you the art of make-up, gele
tying or going for owambe (parties) every weekend. I remember
how furious my late dad was when he discovered I couldn’t boil
rice at age 15 or so because we were surrounded by domestic staff
and a super-domestic mother who would rather do things herself;
he sent me to a catering school without wasting of time during a
short holiday and I am the better for it today.
Even if your mother is dead and there are no aunties around to
teach you, what in the world happened to Google? You can Google
up virtually every food that exists and learn how to cook. All the
time you spend pouting and posing and taking selfies could be
wisely spent on this. I insist your thoughts on no need of being
domestic may change some day when you find a really good man
you want to spend the rest of your life with. Why allow another
woman be his darling? Beware, be wise! Go and learn how to
cook! May God bless you and grant you a most beautiful life!
Amen!
To be continued.
